Before landing in DXB, you will be delivered a fast track card on board. But check before queuing that the fast track queue is really shorter than the normal ones. In some rare occasion, it isn't.
For elsewhere, it depends on the stations.

I'll jump on the back of this one if I may.
Is Fast Track offered for transit passengers in DXB? Before we landed on my last (first ever) flight, we were handed Fast Track passes but at the transit security check, it was just one long line feeding in to two security channels. This was at approx 01:00hrs. Do the normal channels close and they only open a couple at that time of night?
Transiting DXB in 4 weeks around mi-day and just wondering if there is a fast track lane for J pax in transit?
MAny thanks for your help.

The fast track cards are handed out to be used for when going through immigration only.

We are travelling Man-Bne with just a transit in Dxb. I'm not particularly bothered about fast track security ( although we will take it if offered) but I would like to get through immigration quickly

Unless you have egate or smart gate for the exit that can take a while.Transit is a shambles - even in f on the rare times I transit through its a zoo y j and f pax all together, if you keep walking there are more security stations that should be quieter.

When there's a lot of people (group of pilgrims for example), and when my transit time is tight, I slip under and go straight to baggage scan. (To avoid any misunderstanding, I always travel J/F, and transit time is often 1h15 on paper ...)
I don't do that when the sign is not there.

Similarly at BNE - but you can use the Smartgate system if you have an eligible electronic Passport (https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Ente/...teor-ePassport)
Transit will be a shambles as usual, unless you are the very first in your group to arrive at the transit security point.
At DXB there is, sometimes, a F/J security line, but it is never policed or enforced, and when the area gets busy with one or two arriving planes, people just queue up everywhere. So really, there is only "Fast Track" security if you are first at the transit security area. The only consistent fast track style security in transit at DXB is if you are with an EK uniformed staff member who cuts the queue for you.

There are now now 3 levels :-
Normal - join the big queue
Fastrack - pay 3.50 and join the shorter queue
Priority - business class/elites from some airlines join a supposedly even shorter queue
The issue was that the queues during very busy times were horrendous. So, everyone was buying Fastrack passes, which meant that Business/Elites were getting no benefit.
On my last trip through T1, the Priority queue was much bigger than the Fastrack queue. So, it's still a bit of a lottery.

I think I'll resign myself to the fact that we will just have to go with the flow in the security areas.
Regarding immigration, what do you do with the cards that are handed out? Do you get them on the aircraft? Which queue do you join, bearing in mind that in Bne we will be presenting UK passports, but we do have electronic passports. However, last time I landed there the smart gate queue was longer than the regular queue.
On a different note, has anyone any experience of going through security after open heart surgery? My OH recently had operation and now has wires in his chest. We're not sure what the wires are made from & whether they would trigger the alarm. Would we have to pre warn security?

The guy padded me many times, found absolutely nothing, asked me to go through the gate 3 times, and abandoned. I didn't tell them about the leg, because I know I would have ended strip naked.
It's scary that I can go unnoticed in major airports around the world ...
Back to your question : If the wires are inside the body, they will trigger nothing. If they are outside, I would tell them if the alarm goes off, but be prepared to "show" the proof.

Note EK will generally not allow travel within 21 days of invasive chest surgery.
The worst thing would be to turn up at the airport, mention it and then overzealous ground staff not being satisfied he was fit to fly (or security notifying the airline if it gets picked up there) and therefore refuse boarding.
Would recommend various doctor's letters attesting to the surgery and certifying fitness to travel to ease all doubts.

LGW had fast track when I was last there early this year.
It was a separate entrance ( Gatwick premium) and totally different from the usual queue. In fact you don't even see the regular queue as it has a dedicated security team and equipment.
I used to get it even on economy from LGW as it was offered to skywards gold members
