I have a 20cm metal bar in one leg with 13 screws for 25+years. Out of hundreds of flights, I've triggered the alarm only once : at a domestic Chinese airport. (I don't remember where, but it was not PEK, SHB, SPD or HKG)
The guy padded me many times, found absolutely nothing, asked me to go through the gate 3 times, and abandoned. I didn't tell them about the leg, because I know I would have ended strip naked.
It's scary that I can go unnoticed in major airports around the world ...

Back to your question : If the wires are inside the body, they will trigger nothing. If they are outside, I would tell them if the alarm goes off, but be prepared to "show" the proof.
