EK codeshare on QF

The FAQ on Emirates agents website specifically states that one could book EK codeshare flights on QF metal either online, through the TA or with EK direct.

http://www.emiratesagent.sk/11076786

I rang EK to add domestic segments to my SIN-MEL ticket that I just bought and after a good 20 minute wait (checking terms/conditions) the very friendly chap said they can not sell individual QF domestic segments (as separate tickets) or have them appended to the international ticket. He also said that I should call QF and book those segments as EK coded flights, something I thought of as weird.

Am I missing something?

iirc, You are missing something. If you have a SIN-MEL ticket then there is no domestic leg that can be part of the journey and what you are wanting is a separate ticket

If you buy SIN-CBR ( for example ) then there can be a domestic leg to CBR. Alternatively a SIN-MEL ticket would allow travel ( for example ) SIN-BNE-MEL

Except that EK doesn't publish a SIN-CBR fare. I was under the impression that the partnership will result in the ability for EK to sell QF domestic flights.

SIN-CBR was just an example , albeit a bad one.

I didn't think that Emirates had been given traffic rights to allow EK to sell pure domestic travel

They had/have. EK was selling 'pure' domestic travel until they pulled the plug on their EVAP (Emirates Visit Australia Pass), though that was with DJ. The partnership with QF gave me the impression that they would continue to do something similar. But clearly I was wrong or misinterpreted both their news and their online FAQ which states that you could purchase codeshare flights through EK.

I might add that the mentioned FAQ even talks about honouring the EK luggage allowance on domestic sectors if travel is within 24 hours from arrival/departure on EK and clearly states that one should show the EK ticket/boarding pass at QF check in. That in itself can be interpreted as having no need to hold a thorough single ticket and an incentive to ticket codeshare flights, not to mention earning Skywards miles/tier miles.

They were just selling tickets at an agreed rate with DJ which had to be purchased in conjunction with an international ticket rather than offering EK ( actual or codeshare ) pure domestic legs. There is no restriction on a foreign airline acting as a travel agent and issue tickets for travel on an AU carrier

I don't see why there would be such an interpretation. It is just stating that luggage allowance of the international flight will be honoured

Yep very tiresome. I looked at SIN-MEL combining with MEL-MQL. It brings up the domestic flights with EK codeshares, no matter the combination I try I get the same error:
Sorry, we were unable to price the requested flight. Please choose different dates and try again.

Allow to me rephrase:
- EK says
6. When can I book Emirates codeshare flights?
International and domestic codeshare services are available for immediate sale and travel. This covers services between Australia and Asia, Australia and Dubai, and Dubai and London as well as within the domestic network.
7. How can codeshare flights be booked?
Emirates codeshare flights can be booked, subject to availability, through travel agencies, Emirates Contact Centres and emirates.com
- EK then states that one can (and should) book domestic travel as EK codeshare in order to earn Skywards tier miles.

From the above, it is reasonable to expect that one could just call up EK and book domestic EK codeshare sectors because they explicitly mention domestic codeshare services within the domestic network. They do not exclude neither explicitly nor implicitly that these services can only be booked as part of an international ticket. Even assuming it was the case, I do have a ticket that would qualify.

I think someone needs to get in touch with EK and get further clarifications on this one. While the tier miles aren't something to bother about, it would at least alleviate some of the confusion.

Let me rephrase too

To the best of my knowledge EK has not been given approval to operate as a domestic carrier, just to operate a joint venture with Qantas

No different to QF's venture with BA where BA codeshares existed on a fair number of domestic and international flights; BA codeshares domestically could not be booked on their own

Fair enough. But why then this FAQ says otherwise?

The FAQ doesn't say otherwise

It says "International and domestic codeshare services are available for immediate sale and travel"

It doesn't actually say that the domestic sectors can be booked on their own, just that they are now able to be booked

As they are because I have just booked LHR to HVB via DXB and BNE.

Just to check.. A relative has booked a ticket from HAM-MEL on EK we bought her a ticket 5hrs after arrival on QANTAS to ADL so its a separate PNR does this mean if she shows her EK boarding pass she will have the 30kg allowance honoured on the seperate flight?
