Emirates Standby

Hi, I have a saver fare in economy with a 10hr stop over in Dubai.

There is an earlier connecting flight to Per and I'm looking for information if it's possible to get a standby for it assuming there's availability
Does anyone have any information on doing this and if it is possible what the best way of doing it.

If you can be more specific for the inbound flight to DXB, we can be of more help to you.

Your flight lands at 00:25 and the earlier flight takes off at 2:40, which gives enough time to make a connection in DXB, as long as there is no big delay.

You better give a call to Emirates office in UK and ask for possibility of a schedule change. You can do the schedule changes only on phone, not thru the website.

Even at the check in, if there is no delay, you can ask the attandant or the emirates office in the airport to reschedule the flight, as long as the seats are available and there is no fare difference.

But better give them a call in advance as the layover is too long unnecessarily.

Service desk phone no is
+44 844 800 2777

Have a safe flight.

I think this is the key.

I recall from an earlier post that the poster took the flight with the long stopover as it was significantly cheaper. I think if this is the case then EK will not allow them to change to the earlier flight without paying the going rate.

You have a good memory.

I did take the cheaper option although it seems a bit silly that if they have seats available that they wouldn't just change it. After all the cost of both flights would be the same and all they are really doing is moving someone from one flight to another and freeing up a seat for the later flight.

Or am I missing something?

Yes. It's called yield management, and sometimes it can frustrate us all beyond belief. While there may technically be seats in Y, there may not be any in the actual fare class. You're not simply looking for a Saver fare, you're looking for a Saver fare in the appropriate "letter" class.

The best advice is be persistent. Try calling, if no good, hang up and call again. If you have to wait until you get to DXB, then do exactly the same thing if the first agent won't help, find another one.

Good luck. Report back with an update.

If the flight you are confirmed on is oversold / full you are more likely to be successful. Putting you on the earlier flight will then help EK as well as you.

Hi,

Following up on this thread as I'm in a similar situation @ JFK. I was booked on the cheaper fare from JFK to DXB @ 11 pm. But American Airlines delayed and didn't get me into JFK till 10.50 pm, so the 11 pm EK 202 flight left without me and family. I called Emirates and they won't rebook me on tomorrow flight EK 204 at 11.20 am because they can't find same fare class as the one I booked plus I booked thru' a travel agent :-( and it wasn't their problem American got me screwed. AA agent told me that she can find more than 60 seats in that flight in the morning so I should be able to get in, but Emirates told me to call my travel agent to rebook. my travel agent says I need to pay $375 + change in fare which comes out to be around $900+ / person and he's suggesting to go back to the airline...

In the meantime, I'm stuck at JFK overnight with my 2 year old kid and my wife. Fun fun... I don't want to shell out nearly $3000 for causes that's not mine.
can I wait till the counter opens in the morning and go stand by for free? Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thanks

It sounds like you have 2 separate tickets , one for AA and another foe Emirates

Given this , then you will need to rebook and if the evening flight is the only one with availability in the appropriate class, then that is pretty much how it is

Do you have travel insurance since this would often be covered by insurance

Thanks Dave for the quick response. I don't know if I have 2 separate tickets, but I do have two booking reference for sure (1 for AA and 1 for EK), American allowed me to check-in 2 bags/person as per Emirates rule, so the booking is connected. since American was the one screwed it up. shouldn't they own up some responsibility? Emirates is gloating that they are the worlds greatest airline, but their customer service is certainly below ordinary. I realize my biggest mistake was going thru' the travel agent. I knew I paid marginally more money to the travel agent than Emirates web site, I thought I was helping these guys make few bucks. now I'll have to pay even more for being kind hearted.

Travel insurance? I'll remember that for my next vacation. hindsight is 20/20 for me..

Anyway, given that 60+ seats are still available for the a/n flight in Emirates, Isn't it customary for all airlines to allow passengers who missed flight to go standby even if there's a diff in fares? appreciate your response!

I would be surprised if it was a through fare of AA-EK, but it is possible. If it is a through ticket then it is indeed AA's responsibility to get you to the destination. If ( as I suspect is more likely ) then it is 2 bookings , then it is not AA's responsibility to get you any further than new York

You would be best served calling your travel agent since the agent will know the exact details

Travel insurance is well worthwhile when something unexpected happens

As far as allowing passengers on, I would not expect them to do so.

It sounds like one ticket to me as AA would certainly not allow 2 bags on the first sector if it were separate tickets - they've given me enough grief on through tickets!

I would show up at the EK counter tomorrow morning and explain the situation. If it is an EK ticket - which I suspect it is - (you would have 2 booking references even if on one ticket) they should be able to do something to get you on.
