I've seen a couple of wine lists without prices. Now that I think about it, even more annoying is the beer list without prices at grill type places and chains like Chili's. They list all the beers, but good luck finding the price on the menu. It's always $3-5, but still I would like to know ahead of time what it will cost.

Every time I have seen a wine or beer list without prices, I have found price information on the menu somewhere.

As for Sunday brunch...uh, brunch is just that. The term "brunch" does not imply "buffet". If you want a brunch buffet, go to a place with a buffet...like Old Country Buffet.

Whilst I agree with 1, I'm afraid my view is that 2 and 3 are a case of caveat emptor rather than being the restaurant's fault.

If you go to an eclectic restaurant (and I'm not sure what your definition of eclectic is) then expect a menu that comports with their theme/type of cuisine. If one of your party has no interest in that type of food, book elsewhere. You have a free choice as to where you go out to eat.

As for the buffet point, how on earth is that deceiving? You make the assumption and then get disappointed when it's wrong!

Brunch does not imply buffet. A buffet brunch would imply a buffet, but brunch usually means a mix of breakfast and lunch type foods.

As to the menu, to me that's like going to a seafood place and complaining they serve fish. If you go to an Eclectic restaurant, you should expect an Eclectic menu. It's pretty impossible to find a restaurant where you can't find the menu before going.

I think a better way to handle the bill part will be for the waiter to say let me run and get your change, giving you the chance to say "no keep it" if you don't want change. They should not ask if you would like change with that.

The only one I agree with is "do you want change?" That usually results in an instant tip reduction. The usually-wise cordelli has provided an excellent solution for a waitperson which results in no more effort than the offensive line.

I agree with #1

Once a waitress never came back with change. I had to ask for it and she said "You want change?" in disbelief. The total was $12 and I paid with a $20 bill. I have no idea why she expected an $8 tip on a $12 meal since it was just a plate lunch with included drink delivered on a tray and otherwise required no effort from her. To top that performance off, she was rude about actually bringing the change over.

Restaurants that can only cook a steak to well done but promise you everything else.

Grouchy old man waiters (Smith & Wollensky comes to mind ) that don't listen and have already decided for you what you're drinking and eating.

Spacey waitresses at glitter-bars that are there to be "discovered".

Servers asking "Are you done"? or "Are you all set"? As I am neither a turkey nor a bowl of jello, the proper question should be "May I take your plate"?

I agree, if a restaurant puts a banner or advertisement promoting "Sunday Brunch", I would not expect that they are just open 90 minutes early.

Waiters/waitresses pushing recommendations on me without me asking for one.

Improper pouring of the wine or wine etiquette. Not that hard, 1- present the bottle to me with label in front of me, 2- remove cork in my presence, 3- let me take a look at the cork, 4-pour, 5-let me try it and 6-I'll nod or say no. It is amazing how many times I see people screw up 2 through 4 (4 they'll either pour too little or too much).

Wine lists without vintages or producers listed is a pet peeve of mine.

When they bring the wine you ordered from a different year and tell you it's the same thing. I actually had it happen once where I accepted the wine anyway and they tried to charge me more for it.

I really don't like it when the waiter tells you about the special, but doesn't give you the price.

"very special" ?

i dont think combined breakfast and lunch is rare at higher end restaurants.

I understand about brunch--if you advertise brunch, you should have a brunch menu. It can feature a few items on your main menu, but not just be your main menu. You can also offer the option of the main menu, but have a separate brunch menu.

My pet peeves:
  1. Not receiving sides/dressings that I request. I don't care if it's the kitchen's fault or the server's fault. I just want my order to come out as ordered. It may be odd, but if I request a side of ranch with something, I want the side of ranch. Not bringing it to me with my food isn't going to make me forget about it or say, "Oh, that's ok, I didn't need it anyway." If you're afraid you'll forget when you bring my food, bring it to the table before.
  2. Letting my drink go empty. If I'm drinking a soft drink or water, bring more, please. If I'm drinking alcohol, when my glass is down to about 1/3 left, ask if I'd like another, please.
  3. If I order something without peanuts/almonds/whatever, that means I don't want to see them on the item. I've lost count of the number of times I've ordered something without peanuts or almonds, only to have the item delivered to the table complete with what I've requested they not use. If I say, "I'm deathly allergic to almonds. Could you please make the salad without almonds," that means that eating almonds can kill me! It's not as easy as picking off tomato or lettuce or croutons. Have the food prepared as I requested. If you can't manage that, don't be surprised when I find the manager and send the food back.
