Cholula Addiction Club

Sign here if you have become addicted to Cholula Hot Sauce as a result of your involvement in the FlyerTalk community.

We had a lovely brunch this morning in PDX. The only disappointment in this meal was that Hunki emptied the bottle of Cholula before I got quite enough for my frittata. They had other hot sauces, but just nothing else would quite do. That got me thinking seriously about my Cholula addiction.

I had never heard of Cholula before joining FlyerTalk. Then, years ago, this Cholula guy, whom I had never heard of, offers me a couple of free Cholula coupons via PM. So I gave him my snail mail address and he sends me some coupons. Of course, "a couple" turned out to be six, so I shared them with our son, Peregrine, and some of our other employees. Truth be told, we are now all Cholua junkies. There is no question that this Cholula guy is a pusher.

There are other FlyerTalkers whom I have noticed reach first for the Cholula bottle. I even saw one FlyerTalker pour Cholula on his Vegemite.

Are you among the addicted?

Ok... I'm not sure why this has ended up in Communitybuzz! since it seems to be about food, so I'm going to move it over to Diningbuzz!

I could tell that exact story.

I had Cholula with lunch yesterday and marveled in the fact that there's only a centimeter left in the bottle. IIRC, it's taken approx four weeks to consume one bottle. Thank goodness I have two more in the cupboard.

It is amazing, isn't it boxo, how successful this sauce has been at binding the FlyerTalk Community even closer. ^

I would nomininate it for a community OMNI award, if we still had OMNI awards.

Have read about the sauce and the eponymous FTer so many times, that it was just a matter of time before it became locally available here.

I've yet to look for it in a grocery or deli place but look forward to seeing it at a cafe sometime soon. It's been written about in foodie news media. ^

Maybe Bill's in East Sydney has it - so Randy and friends can have it with Bill's world-renowned eggs this Friday.

I suspect that there might be one or two local SYD flyertalkers who have a bottle that they can bring along to breakfast.

Cholula is definitely the sauce that binds the FT Community together. I have a bunch of pictures I should post of Cholula Dos.

Maybe I will find them tomorrow.

I have been honored to receive many times over the years, cartons of Cholula bottles shipped to my USA whistle-stop hotels. Organised by Senor Cholula no less.

They have been handed out at the associated dinners and gatherings, and I have always had a couple left over to take home.

I gave one to MargoOZ about 12 months ago where it sat unloved and unused in her 'Hot Sauce Free Zone' pantry, unless I was sloshing a little on eggs or bacon.

That pantry had Heinz Ketchup as its zippiest content until Cholula arrived - trust me.

Then her 17 year daughter and her friend Nick "Discovered" Cholula 2 weeks back.

It was gone in a day.

So to my rather pleasant surprise Margo found some on sale in Coles our 2nd largest supermarket chain.

She bought a bottle, and that too was gone in a day. And got another on Sunday.

I was sitting having dinner with these kids on the weekend and they were splashing it over EVERYTHING on the plate, salad included.

So BiziBB .. I can assure you that Coles do stock it. I looked at Woolworths today, our other large supermarket, but no sign of it. (Yet!) But 50% of the market is 50% more than there used to be here!

Margo's kids might help get the "Cool" vibe rumbling here.

I note with interest looking at http://cholula.com that there is now a GARLIC Cholula sauce on the market market, so that is on my shopping list.

I am going to order gift basket #2 for Margo's daughter and Nick, and that will neatly solve their Xmas gift.

Now I just got back from the USA, so need to ask sweetly if any Americans are visiting here before Xmas so I can have it shipped to them.

Yep, if it wasn't for Flyertalk, then I would have never tried Cholula or visited the website.

Have a bottle of the "chilli garlic" and the regular at my place. I bought some over in America, then out of the blue I found it for sale in Brisbane. In an Indian Grocery store (of all places!).

So those of us that had been hip to Cholula (the sauce, that is) prior to FT don't get to participate in the thread?

This must be a outside-of-the-US thing. I've always found Cholula to be a very average hot sauce, in fact I find it too salty. :-P

I was in ABQ this past wk-end, and I really enjoyed the green & red chile's. Yummay!

I tried it because of threads here. Not a junkie, but since then it has been the standard hot sauce I buy for home and always have some around.

I tried it because of FT and I like it. I've been fond lately of making stir-fry with just a little olive oil and lots of cholula. Something about spicy vegetables is pretty good.

It's certainly one of those things I never would have tried without Flyertalk, and I'm glad I did, I like it.

And the blinky red light thing too.

I am not addicted...yet...but I do like it alot. Easily 10 times better than Tabasco! I have the larger size at home, and carry the 2 ounce size on the road.

And I think that it was Cholula who welcomed me to FT. :-:

More of those will be given out at the PBI/FLL DO this week.

The funny thing about the Cholula handle is that I was flying to Munich when I read about FT.

I checked into the Marriott, logged on to FT and asked a simple, lame-o question. And selected a handle that I was pretty certain nobody else would select.

My very good buddy, O2K, welcomed me to FT and encouraged me to continue to post in the future.

If I’d known I would get hooked by FT, I might have picked a handle other than a brand I managed.

But, bottom line, the Cholula handle has ended up being fun and has helped me meet many great FT friends.

I think it was.

And, by the way, welcome back.
