Wodka Vodka is the best beer ! $10 for a 750 ml bottle and it tastes as good as Grey Goose. Try it out, you will enjoy it

Notes:A high quality vodka at the price point where they all should be.
At $9 dollars a 750 ml or $15 for a 1.75 L, for a good rye vodka we are finally seeing someone stand up to all the marketing hype that would make a subprime mortgage broker blush. The price of vodka has been getting out of control; for too long.

Grey Goose set what was then a ridiculous price for vodka and so everyone thought it had to be good. It got to the point if you charged less than $25 for vodka it couldn't possibly be any good. Thankfully the people who are importing Wdka decided to bring in a honest vodka at an honest price. Filtered through three different filter mediums the last being charcoal, this vodka would be classified as type 3 or Lux grade by the usual grading standards of production.

No. Martinis are made with gin.

nice article in the current bloomberg business week discussing vodka and advertising of vodka. article states that advertising is considered the best con ever(i think expensive watches are). all the stuff is the same, mfged the same way, only the advertising changes.

The Emperor's new clothes. Vodka snobs who go on and on about a particular vodka - I have them taste a variety of them blindfolded and room temp. The results always surprise 'em. Many find they like some $10 'well vodka' the best and they virtually never can pick out their brand. I find Stoli drinkers can sometimes pick in out, but that's about it. I won't even mention what I think of the Belvedere Bloody Mary knuckleheads or those that think that a $40 vodka won't give you a hangover. wj

Then there are pure quality vodkas that aren't overpriced, and no bar will ever substitute them for anything else.

Tak "Zubrowka" and mix it with apple juice. Probably the best combination ever. Simply cannot be replaced with any other brand, and hence never is.

Has anyone tried Grand Khaan Vodka from Mongolia? It is distilled three times and filtered five times. It won a Gold Medal at San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2009.

I'm still more or less stuck in the Russian/Polish/Ukrainian/Scandinavian idea of having clear vodka shots with pickled herring, boiled tongue and other small delicacies before the actual meal starts...Or at least with bread and salt.
As others have said, you can be pretty inventive with vodka without rousing any suspicions. If you're trying to keep it "classy" (and thus don't want something fruity-colored), a vodka tonic is a great drink.

For my money, Russian Standard is as good as it gets. It's becoming easier to find in the US now, too. Absent that, I reach for the Stoli.

When I read that article in the gym (working off the previous weekend's vodka calories) I was glad that I generally don't pay more than $20 for 1.75L. More often than not, it's Monopolwa or Svedka.

Also, take a look at the "Related PDF" of brands within the <$20 range.

American vodka

I am beginning to really appreciate American Vodka. I was at a restaurant recently, which prided itself on it's fine "mixologists." It was the Hungry Cat in Santa Monica. My husband and I decided to have a cocktail (or 2) and a lot of oysters. We ate at the bar and noticed no imported vodka. We were told that the restaurant preferred to serve the American vodkas, suggesting that they were superior to the popular European brands. We are now drinking http://titosvodka.com/
Very smooth, even straight-up out of the freezer. $16.99 at Trader Joes in Los Angeles.
