When I visit Port Jefferson, NY, I have to dine at The Steamroom for their Manhattan Clam Chowder.
When I visit Chicago-land, I have to dine at Portillo's Hotdogs for a beef & cheddar croissant and Brooster's Chicken.
When I visit New York City or Long Island, I have to dine at any decent pizzeria for a few slices.
When I visit Nashville, TN, I have to dine at Jackson's Bar & Bistro for the pulled Buffalo chicken caesar salad and Jimmy Kelly's for an excellent steak.
When I visit The South, I have to dine at Chick-fil-A.

I think I once had a slice of pizza there only after loooooooong delays, you've probably eaten there more than I have

I'm not a huge fan of the sacher torte. It's good and def has to be served with fresh, real whipped cream. My last visit to the cafe at the Hotel Sacher we convinced them to make salzburger knockerl - now that was a treat and they did a great job!

Jimmy Kelly's was our college dress-up-date place...like a time capsule of Nashville in the '30s (at that time anyway).

When I am home in Nashville, I have to dine at the Loveless Cafe, which in addition to being famous for its biscuits is my neighborhood restaurant.

I also like to go to Wildwood, which is a new and ridiculously good place near my house that doesn't advertise, because, as the owner told us, he didn't want people from outside our area coming in and taking all the seats (it is jammed every night as it is).

When I visit Arcadia, CA, I go to Din Tai Fung Dumpling House for the great dumplings, frenetic atmosphere, and dangerous parking lot.

When I go to Boston, which is rare, I go to Santarpio's in East Boston (very near Logan) for their coal-fired, authentically olive-oily, pizza...this used to be our lunch order-in place when I worked near there.

Hong Kong - Hee Kee chilli fried crab, in Wan Chai. A must! Among all other great restuarants.

Evanston IL - Buffalo Joe. I'm still trying to find a wing place that can top Joe's.

When I go to Vegas I always eat at Batista's. It's a little Italian place, great food, and all the wine you can drink.

It still is...or at least, the last time I went there it was!

You know, this is close to blasphemy - but during all the time I lived in Nashville, I never made it to the Loveless. I ate at several other meat-n-threes, but never had the famous breakfast at the Loveless. Hmm, perhaps a goal for my next visit to my favorite city.

I also like to go to Wildwood, which is a new and ridiculously good place near my house that doesn't advertise, because, as the owner told us, he didn't want people from outside our area coming in and taking all the seats (it is jammed every night as it is).
I've heard great things about Wildwood - it's out in Bellevue, right? Maybe I'll have to try both Loveless & Wildwood on my next visit. How often are you home in BNA? BNA Restaurant DO!

Philadelphia - Singapore on Race Street. A Chinese Vegetarian place for their celestial orange "beef"

Boston - New Saigon Sandwich on Washington Street. Best Banh Mi EVAR.

SF - Yum Yum Sushi - out on Irving, this is a little fish shop that does sushi. Fresh and dirt cheap.
El Tonayense - a taqueria in the mission.

I'm home this weekend and then probably not for another two weeks (I am moving "home" to Pasadena but will be back and forth for a few months). Wildwood is actually on Hwy 100 about a mile before you get to Loveless. Loveless is under new ownership as of about three years ago, but they've kept most of what made it good. I'd say breakfast is not as wonderful as it used to be (one of my three favorite breakfast places, along with Lou Mitchell's in Chicago and Moody's Diner in Maine), but lunch and dinner are much improved over the previous incarnation (you got the impression in earlier years that the kitchen staff was beyond caring by dinnertime).
