We always take out-of-town visitors there for Chicago-style pizza. I can barely eat 1 1/2 pieces. I bet my 15-year-old nephew $10 that he couldn't eat 3 pieces. He barely got it down, but he did it.

Yep, Giordano's rocks.

I worked at a Giordano's years ago while going to college. One of the reasons I did it was I thought I would get sick of pizza after being around it 4 or 5 days a week, plus getting a free pizza every shift I worked.

It backfired.

After 3 months I had to quit because I liked pizza more than before and I was getting addicted to all the free shift pizzas. :D

We don't live in Chicago anymore, but this link has been dangerous for us at times:

Best national chain: Papa Johns

Best regional chain: East of Chicago Pizza Co.

Best local joint: a place near downtown PVD but I forget the name. All the pizza delivery menus have been removed from my bag, LOL.

I heard recently Totonno's in Brooklyn burned down and there's no plans to rebuild. Tragic!

The best pizza joints are the local by the slice establishments that have a true tie to Italian or Sicilian recipes. If we are talking chains, my personal favorite is Domino's now although I kind of burn out on any pizza chain after a couple of years and pick another one. One that is actually very good is Mama's Pizza b/c it has that great cheese that is damn good. Too bad they don't have any where I live.

I have recently eaten one of the best pizzas I have ever had outside of the New York/New Jersey area, and it is conveniently located several miles from where I live, in the same county in which I reside here in Georgia:

All Star Pizza Co.

...and, best of all, I know the owners!

I met with some colleagues here for the first time for a small dinner gathering. I entered the place with trepidation, as I am almost always disappointed with any pizza I eat outside of the New York/New Jersey area, although I have eaten some fairly decent pies in Slovenia and Italy last year. I ordered a small 12" pepperoni and green olive pie, thinking I may eat a few bites or even a whole slice before not being able to eat any more.

While waiting, I saw a pizza that someone else ordered. Hmm...that actually looks pretty good, I thought to myself. I was not all that hungry because I had eaten a lot of food for lunch that day. I hope my pizza somewhat resembles that one, I thought.

When my pie arrived, it looked quite appetizing. I reached for a slice and took a bite. Not bad!, I thought. I folded the slice to eat further, just like I used to do at pizzerias in Brooklyn. As I kept eating, I liked the pizza more and more. The firm yet chewy crust resembled one found on a pizza from Brooklyn. There was the right combination of ingredients, with the flavors and textures nicely balancing each other. It was not too oily either, nor was it overcooked or undercooked.

Save for one slice eaten by someone else, I wound up eating the entire pie, even though I was already full after only the second slice, but I just could not stop eating!

I highly recommend this place. If you are ever in the Marietta area and crave for pizza, this is the place to go!

Here is a review that I posted earlier in this thread.

Since then, I have taken several FlyerTalk members and family members to this place. They have asked to return.

It even passed the taste test of the most discerning pizza critic: my mother. She ate two slices!

Sadly, All Star Pizza in Marietta, Georgia is under new ownership — as my friends sold this pizzeria — and I can no longer recommend it.

The last time I visited and ordered a pepperoni and green olive pizza just as ownership of the pizzeria was being transferred, the quality and consistency of the pizza had significantly deteriorated, although the pizza was still passably good.

i don't know name of pizza places, but , i think new york pizza is the best. all those little pizza places on the street corner stores that sell it by the slice. it's thin crust and they fold it in half and eat it.

i can't find thin crust like that anyplace else in the country.

Mac and Manco's down the Jersey shore.

So I've seen a bunch of posts relating to California pizza, being from back east I must say that in general CA pizza sucks. There are some good places but you have to be very careful on where you eat. Unlike the east coast where you can go into almost any pizza shop and get at least a halfway decent pizza. In Cali you have to be more careful as 90% of all pizza shops suck.

Here are some favorites:

Roccos - Walnut Creek, CA
Skipolini's - Clayton, CA
Amici's - Several locations in N Cali.

For pizza back east I would recommend

Pizza Mia - Bedford, NH
Santarpio's - Boston, MA
Christopher's - Hollis, NH... Sadly closed now...

They are back!!!

The owners of All Star Pizza Co. may have sold their pizzeria, but after each of them had a stint in the corporate world, they reunited and four months ago started a new pizzeria in Kennesaw, Georgia called Peace, Love and Pizza, just northeast of Interstate 75 off the Wade Green Road exit — and they have not lost their touch, as the pizza is every bit as good as it used to be at their former pizzeria.

This place only has three tables, as it is designed more for carry-out and delivery rather than like All Star Pizza Co., which was a full-service restaurant.

Just yesterday, I purchased a 1-topping 18" pie for $10.59, including tax. Considering that Papa John’s and Pizza Hut are advertising their large — or any size — pizzas for exactly the same price but are considerably smaller in size and not nearly as good — in fact, there is simply no comparison — it is an amazing deal.

I highly recommend this place. If you are ever in the Kennesaw area — or in Marietta, Woodstock, Acworth or even Atlanta — and crave for pizza, this is absolutely the place to go!

I'm not a huge pizza fan but Matchbox in DC has turned my thoughts around. It's really great stuff.
