I'm going to recommend Swensen's in Jakarta located at Gajah Mada Plaza. Always a treat to go there after a stroll in the hot & humid outdoors of the city.

Your Favorite Sorbet or Ice Cream

I try to order sorbet every time I go out just to compare flavors. My favorite of all time was at this small cafe in Paris several years ago. It was served as a trio and was so refreshing. The best ice cream I've ever had was at this place called Cows in Halifax, Nova Scotia. What are all your favorites?

I had an amazing "sundae" at Bi-Rite Creamery with chocolate ice cream, malden salt, and a drizzle of olive oil. Dense and wonderfully rich without being cloyingly sweet.

They also have a wonderful salted caramel.

Best ice cream I have ever had was in Buenos Aires -- italian gelatto with some unique flavours. They had about 50 kinds available each day, and the best was quince -- try finding that flavour anywhere else in the world (actually you can in Italy). Leaves US ice cream in the dust. With the exchange rate it is also 1/4 of the US price. Eat enough ice cream and it will pay for your trip to EZE.

Florence. Each place was better then the last. My favorite was the cantelope flavor , until I got the strawberry down the street, etc.

My most memorable was basil sorbet at Tra Vigne in the Napa Valley. It was savory, not sweet, in between courses in a meal.

I grew up in MA, but my dad used to travel to San Diego on business a lot and my mom and I would travel along. We always stayed at the Town and Country Hotel (still there) on Hotel Circle, and across the street (in what is now a mall) was a Farrell's--I guess it probably was the Fashion Valley location.

Usually my dad would already be in town, and we'd fly TWA from Boston to LAX. He'd drive up and pick us up at night. It was such a treat to get into San Diego and stop at Farrell's--which also happened to be my middle name!

Recently, I took my wife to San Diego (rekindling some good memories) and found that Farrell's out by Miramar--I had been there before during the 96 GOP Convention. Ok, so not quite the same, but...for sentimental purposes, I'm glad there's still one out there.

Being an MA kid, I grew up with Friendly's, Brighams, and Newport Creamery. I'm not sure if there are any Brigham's left, but they still sell ice cream. Can't be many Newport Creamery's either--for a time there was one just down the street from me in Old Shrewsbury Village. Now I'm in Nothern VA and there is a Friendly's nearby in Sterling VA that I can take my son too when he's old enough.

As for quality--you couldn't beat Hebert's Candy Mansion in Shrewsbury. They had a make your own sundae bar.

Fentons Creamery in Oakland, CA is just amazing. All of their ice cream is made right at the resturant so it's sinfully good. They also have dinner food, but who cares about that? Take a friend and order the Banana Special for dinner. Much better than the standard American fare they have there Always order ice cream there first before dinner, so you won't be too full to finish off your delicious sundae.

They're at 4226 Piedmont Avenue in Oakland.

The Ghirardelli ice cream parlor is also good, and is at the Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco.

Handel's in Youngstown, Ohio. Best stuff I've had, even in all my travels in dairy country throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania.

If "Spouse Like a House" with peanut butter, chocolate covered pretzels, and malted milk balls isn't enough, just go for the "Cake Batter," which tastes exactly like cake batter right out of the bowl. And this time of year, they make a mean "Thin Mint" seasonal variety.

(The flavor for which they're most famous, though, is chocolate pecan - with the ice cream so soft it's difficult to get through a cone without the bottom falling out on you!)

^ ^ Salted caramel ice cream from Bi-Rite Creamery is phenomenal! It's even better with a little fleur de sel sprinkled on top.
