um, no, while there a few "boutique" ranchers just like in any industry in any location there is no cachet.
a steakhouse in houston like perrys or vics or brenners would not advertise "local beef". nor would one go in a steakhouse in california and ask for "texas beef".
while we obviously have a large cattle industry the availability of "good beef" for a consumer is not unique to texas.
in fact one could say the state food is beef brisket which is smoked for 10+ hours (w/ hickory or pecan) to improve the taste on what typically is a bland and tough piece of meat.
churrasco is certainty a great way of preparing meats, the most popular in brazil. in my 2 months in rio (separate trips) i ate at rodizios 3 to 5 times a week. having tried many, porcao is tops, and picanha is their king cut. if you cant appreciate that, its YOUR loss
Thanks.... Its my loss then and your Porcao gain.....

I had a pretty good lomo de chorizo at an Argentine "steakhouse" (if I'm allowed to use that word
), called Gauchos, in Amsterdam, the other evening. Really tasty provoleta (at least their version of it) and panqueque de dulce de leche! They claim they have the only beef in Amsterdam that is from Argentina.

The Palm in Chicago
I had a really nice meal the weekend before last (5/3) at The Palm in Chicago. I felt like a good steak (I was solo dining in Chicago) so I did a little research online about any steakhouses that were doing any web "specials", as I know most chains have one going on (Morton's, Ruth's Chris & Flemings all have something I was aware of).
Sure enough I found The Palm website and they have a current "Biggest and Best Filet" meal deal going on for $39.00/person. It includes soup or salad first course choices, a choice of two different filet or a fish main course, and a side dish. I liked the fact that it did not included dessert, as I'm not big on desserts and wanted to avoid one anyway.
There is an online coupon to print out, but it is not needed at the restaurant; just ask about the special and they'll give it to you (as is the case with most of these specials: they aren't on the menu, but mention them and they're yours).
What was nice was that I found out that there is an additional option not mentioned on the website: for and additional $10 you can have the 12 oz. New York Strip instead of the filet.
I went for the Caesar Salad (very good!), New York Strip (M/R) with a side of peppercorn sauce (included), and a side of green beans (sauteed w/garlic). I also added an iced tea. Overall, everything was excellent! Good service as well.
With the menu price of the 12 oz. New York at over $40, I thought it was a pretty good deal. My total bill (with a 20%+ tip) was just under $70/AI.

Old Swan Brewery, Perth, Western Australia
Converted from a brewery to an apartment complex with a couple of restaurants, I reckon this place serves the best steaks in Australia.
I am not sure if it counts as a "steakhouse" but the food...^
The complex is on the banks of the Swan River, and there are 2 restaurants - go for the bar and grill, although Zafarelli's (?) has a very good reputation as a fine dining establishment.
If you are in a party of 2 or more, be sure to go for "The Tomahawk" - this is the biggest ribeye I have seen, priced by 100gm, and carved off the bone at the table.
BTW, I have no involvement in the place, other than being fed well every time I go there!!

Great steak in the evening and one of the best hamburgers i have ever had! It is hard to beleave it is in a hotel but on the other hand, the Ballantyne is one of the best in Charlotte and among the top of Starwood's hotels.

Steakhouses
It's got to be without a shadow of a doubt BOBBY VAN'S STEAKHOUSE in Washington, I went there when I last visited in November and their sirloin steak is fantastic, my mouth is watering just thinking about it...

Also, a great deal of the Wagyu found here comes from Harrell Ranch, here in Austin, a small, family-run ranch that does an amazing job. We have met the husband and wife (she is Japanese). They have an interesting tale to tell on how they managed to get Kobe cattle from Japan to the US! It's illegal to export the animals out of Japan.
The Harrells have a shop here in town where their beef is cut as it's bought. It's possible to buy 1/2 or 1/4 of a cow there, as well as large combination packs at significant savings. The store is called, appropriately, The Meat Shop. It's one of our hidden gems here. It's also possible to buy online at their web site.
We buy their beef nearly exclusively these days and are satisfied that it's some of the best beef available in the US. There's a fantastic article here that tells more about the ranch.

A few years ago a highway was constructed through the Harrell's property, and I think they were imminent domained out.
The link above seems to go to another Harrell Ranch web site now. Not sure if it is the same folks or different folks. The ranch linked is in Oklahoma and raises longhorn cattle. There is another Wagyu source that we have found. They mention that they specialize in a particular breed of Wagyu called Akaushi: http://www.heartbrandbeef.com/
Their ranch is also here in Texas. It's possible to order cuts online, and they're available in some retail stores, as well as some restaurants. Not sure if they'll sell in bulk (i.e. 1/2 or 1/4 a cow).
I haven't tried them yet, but my husband and I intend to procure some soon to see how it compares to our long-lost favorite, Harrell's. We were at the Inn at Dos Brisas for brunch this past weekend, and it was reading their menu that turned us on to the Akaushi at Heartbrand. They didn't serve any of it as part of their brunch menu that day, however.
Completely unrelated...
I read an article about a particularly "unique" steakhouse located inside The Penthouse Club in NYC. The article mentioned that the chef was given a virtual blank check and free rein when he signed on there. As a result, he has an amazing dry aging room and ages his steaks much longer than most. The article mentioned that his restaurant happened to be among the best in the city for steaks. Incidentally and probably not surprisingly, the steaks were also among the priciest.
We both really got a kick out of the story. I'd link to it, but I'm at work now and probably shouldn't hunt for it until this evening when I'm on my personal computer.

I've always been a little curious what goes on in these types of venues (gentleman's clubs, not steakhouses), so who knows? Maybe the next time I'm in the city I can satisfy both curiosities at once! lol!

i like the steak in the steakhouse at Circus Circus in Las Vegas. I also like the steak in Chicago at the restaurant steakhouse in the Doubletree Hotel sorry can't think of the name of it / it is a steakhouse chain , not a hotel restaurant. Lugers in NY. I have had Kobe beef in Japan , was good , but expensive. Morton's is a pretty good pick too.
