Consolidated "Ruth's Chris" thread
Going here for a special dinner soon. Anyone know of a way to use miles or points (besides Radisson) to save some money?
Barring that, anyone know of any coupons or discounts out there?

I've never seen any discounts offered for Ruth's Chris in the form of a coupon in a travel publication or newspaper, possibly to maintain the "exclusivity" of the steak chain however, as a fan of the restaurant, I am aware of a frequent guest program that they offer where when the program card is presented, it usually results in a complimentary dessert or after dinner drink.
A number of years ago, for the 30th Anniversary of the restaurant chain, they offered a prize, worth $1,500 in value, stored in a Ruths Chris debit card, for dining at 30 of the restaurants. Each member of the frequent guest program received a passport which was stamped at each of the participating locations. After 30 stamps, from different locations, one mailed in the passport to the corporate offices which was followed up with a call from the PR agency. The winners pictures were published in the quarterly newsletter that was published at the time also. More people won the prize than they had planned for, but it was a lot of fun participating in the promotion.

The Palm also offers its 837 Club (http://www.thepalm.com/837club.cfm), which is great if you are even a semi-frequenter. In addition to earning redeemable points on your meals, they also send you various promotions and discounts (including a certificate for a free 3 lb. lobster for my birthday this year).

If you are a member of The Palms program 837 Club and will be dining at a Palm soon, I have a coupon good for a free bottle of Beaulieu Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon or Sonoma Chardonnay, which can be used at a dinner sitting. The coupon expires on 9/15/2001. Please email me if youre interested.

Love Steak & Roast Beef?
Go on, dig in! Eat a big, fat juicy steak now--as well as lots of other foods that are rich in vitamins B-6 and B-12 and folic acid--and you may ward off Alzheimer's disease later.
Two new studies from the school of medicine at the University of California, Davis and Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick, Australia, report in the journal Neurology there is new evidence that homocysteine, an amino acid that is found in our blood, can cause the type of brain and blood vessel deterioration that can lead to dementia and Alzheimer's disease, as well as heart disease and strokes. But eating foods high in the B vitamins and folic acid can lower the level of homocysteine and help ward off the damage.

Ruth's Chris "Specials"??
Ruth's Chris ran a summer special that recently ended. Their web site says that there is now a "Chef's Selection" special currently running...but I cannot find out anything about it. I've phoned their main office in Florida...had to leave a message and have not received a return call. Does anyone know what the current "special" is???

Majority of the Ruth's Chris's are franchised....so I'm guessing it probably differs from restaurant to restaurant.
I found this out by getting three very different "vegetarian plates" in a month in different locations and asked about why it was different. I've found the quality varies drastically between restaurants.
My favourite locations are the Beverly Hills, Bethesda Maryland and the New York (Times Square ish?) locations.
Not too impressed with the Austin location. Eddie V's- Much better.

That's been my experience. For example, some Florida locations offer a "Prime Rib for 2" special that's not available where I live in NJ. I think the best way to keep up with specials at your local restaurant(s) is to register on their web site and they'll email you when they come available. Also, they haven't spammed me too much.

Yesterday's Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel weekend section had an ad for "Ruth's Classics" - it was 39.95 for a three course (starter, entree and desseert). The entrees listed were 6 ounce filet with shrimp, stufed chicken breast, fresh fish selection, or BBQ shrimp.

Ruth's Chris Seasonal Menu
For those of you who want great steak without making a huge dent in your pocketbook, Ruth's Chris is offering their prix fixe menu again.
There are two options $39 and $49, with the difference being the entree choices.
For $39 you can select from:
Stuffed chicken
Broiled fish
6oz Filet with grilled shrimp
For $49 you can select from:
16oz Ribeye
12oz Filet
All come with your choice of appetizer (different salads or seafood gumbo), one personal side dish (the sides are HUGE - enough to share) and a cheesecake dessert.
We did one $39 option with the filet and one $49 option with the ribeye. The filet was small, but actually quite adequate unless you have a huge appetite and are very hungry. The ribeye was delicious, but the combination of some fat and the mound of butter sizzling on top almost made my heart stop.
Because we had dessert plans after dinner, we were allowed to exchange our dessert for an additional side - so we ordered creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, green beans and bacon-wrapped brussel sprouts. EVERYTHING was drenched in butter. We ended up taking some of the sides home, and the amount of fat that hardened in the bottom of the takeout boxes after refrigeration was absolutely staggering.
I think next time our plan is to order one steak (filet) each and one baked potato to share - probably the same total cost with less risk to our cardiovascular health.

If you specify "dry", you should get your steak butter-free ("should" being the operative word
