My favorite & everyday breakfast is to have Savory Oatmeal with an Egg and a cup of coffee.

Alas, Banh Mi DC Sandwich in Falls Church (one of the better known banh mi joints in the DC area) does not do egg on theirs. They are still pretty tasty.

I understand several Vietnamese places in northern VA do offer eggs, anyway. Have to try some of them out.

Pho (preferably beef)
Dim Sum
Full English

Any of those make for a very happy start to the day for me. Most of the time it's a fried egg on toast.

There will always be a lot of discussion on what are the best fine dining options in various locations. This usually covers lunch and dinner options.
But I generally like my best meal of the day to be breakfast and it doesn't seem to come up much so I thought it might be nice to generate a thread to discuss it,
Personally I have had about three breakfasts that I would call 'great'.

I know the folks on this forum will have seen and eaten more than me, so I ask you... Where is the best breakfast in the world?

Most important meal of the day - probably. Best meal of the day - if you like. But fine dining and breakfast are not happy bedfellows.

I like pancakes, bacon and eggs..sunny side up :)

My favorite breakfast involves crispy Belgian waffles, fruit, onsen eggs, and hash browns. Weird combo, I know...

Closest I've found in a restaurant to that is Blue Duck Tavern in DC. Or the buffet at cheap hotels, though the quality of the waffles is meh and of course good luck with those onsen eggs...

Loco Moco and Bahn mi were new to me so I'll make sure to try those if I get a chance.

On the topic of Turkish breakfasts, the Armada Hotel in Istanbul has a massive breakfast spread on the roof. I got a smattering of everything but then I went to get some tea and returned to chaos. A couple of giggling Japanese ladies said "The bird got it" presumably refering to the seagull that had been showing some earlier curiosity.

For quick breakfasts I like Tim Ho Wan dim sum. Many people mentioned dim sum. There could probably be a productive thread on just that topic.

Not too many name drops on fancy restaurants. I am more than happy to spend a couple of hours having breakfast if need be. I think all three of the ones I mentioned took well over an hour to get through.
Breakfast is not something to deliver like Haute Cuisine I agree, but caviar would be on a lot of my ideal breakfast menus and a lot of the breakfasts at those fine London hotels excel not because they are fancy but because they have chosen the best sausages money can buy.

I can't remember who mentioned it above, but having a proper steak and eggs for breakfast is probably the best US option I have come across. Only trouble is it doesn't really go with my two favourite breakfast drinks Champagne or Bloody Mary, it goes best with beer and I don't really fancy beer in the morning.

I consider brunch to be breakfast. It's just a better than usual breakfast served at a sensible time, usually with booze. Winner.

Never had these, but can see what they are. I have a Japan trip booked next year so if you have any recommendations for Japanese breakfasts I would be v interested (maybe even making a special trip).

I agree 100%. There are few dinner options, no matter the price, that I would prefer over a good eggs benedict, or biscuits and sausage gravy, etc. I figure I've eaten breakfast in restaurants at least 6000 times. Dinner, less than 10% of that.
The best breakfasts in the world are all in the USA duh! ;) , and they are mostly all found in various hole-in-the-wall joints in "anytown". Mexico does a fine job too, and excellent examples are found in the USA as well. Consistently best Benedict: Katrina's Cafe, Auburn, CA. (weekends only)

To me onsen eggs are just a fancy way to say (very) soft-boiled eggs.

At least a few times/month, I opt for breakfast for dinner. Granted, with my new dietary restrictions, it is sometimes easier. :D

I'm far from knowledgeable on the topic, but aren't they served in soy sauce? Or does "onsen" refer to the cooking style and they can be served various ways?
