Your favorite Breakfast?

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...3c7c2a30c2.jpg

Breakfast at The George.... great preparation for a full day at the RN Museums in Portsmouth dockyard.

Having enjoyed the thread about a "Full English" brekkie causing distress for a vegan in North Wales.... I thought we might discuss (and show photos?) of OUR favourite way of Breaking the Fast.......

I'm not really an egg fan but I'll eat them if they're there. Pancakes or waffles, however, I'll definitely have.

braslvr Jan 10, 2018 6:27 am

Nothing goes better with eggs than hash browns or home fries. It's a requirement in order to be considered a 'favorite'. Beyond that, the options are many.

JBord Jan 10, 2018 7:45 am

That breakfast looks good to me. I'm a fan of the traditional English, Irish, or American breakfast. I'll loosely define and generalize those as containing eggs, some type of breakfast meat, some type of potato (or beans), and toast.

Pancakes, waffles, etc. are for kids or dessert! :D

100% agree. Pancakes or waffles are ok but I can't stand all the HFCS and fake dairy products that go with them.

764toHI Jan 10, 2018 2:35 pm

I particularly enjoy an American or English breakfast, but my heart is always touched by dim sum (:D)

trooper Jan 10, 2018 3:46 pm

The only thing that would improve a full English (IMO) would be the addition of a potato product...hash browns..home fries.....

east_of_the_sun Jan 10, 2018 3:47 pm

My favorite breakfast is an omelet stuffed with diced tomatoes, sliced mushrooms, and chopped spinach, then shredded cheese sprinkled on top.

Add some hash browns , some buttered toast, and a cup of coffee with a bit of half & half and I am a happy girl... and in no need of lunch. :)

HawaiiO Jan 12, 2018 8:52 pm

i like a full english breakfast!
Pass on the black pudding though.

DoggyDaddy Jan 13, 2018 6:31 pm

I enjoy a breakfast of biscuits and gravy.

Beltway2A Jan 14, 2018 9:53 am

A few ounces of salmon (grilled or smoked) and some eggs. Add in a large mug of coffee and I'm set.

txflyer77 Jan 14, 2018 5:59 pm

Anthony Bourdain's scrambled egg recipe, along with some fresh berries and a slice of toasted rustic bread spread with avocado and quality olive oil—one that's still got a little spice to it.

- Fry chopped bacon in a skillet
- Once cooked, pour whipped eggs over the bacon
- Sprinkle on a generous amount of chopped green onion
- Once the eggs are slightly set, add a dollop of sour cream and scramble

Served with a pot of black coffee and a glass of grapefruit juice.

My second choice would be roti canai with a fish curry from a Mamak stall in Malaysia.

OMG, that breakfast looks great! Until my first visit to the UK, I had never had broiled tomatoes for breakfast. Once I did, it was like - why did I wait so long to do this???

Living in the southern US, I also have to say that biscuits (proper ones, not those hard things that pass for biscuits) are a wonderful addition to early morning.

I'm now going to have to start photographing breakfast when I travel...assuming, I like the meal, of course. Great thread!

trooper Jan 14, 2018 10:58 pm

But the Brits could learn from you folks and ADD SOME POTATO!!! :D Then I would ......SWOON over the meal!!!

P.S. Would a British Scone come close to the kind of "biscuits" you like??

darthbimmer Jan 15, 2018 12:09 am

My favorite breakfast is anywhere that serves lunch foods at 7am.

One does wonder how a society as cultured and sophisticated as the British neglected to include crispy hash browns part of a proper fry-up! :D

work2fly Jan 15, 2018 9:31 am

My everyday breakfast is a slice of wheat toast and a bowl of greek yogurt and fresh berries.

When traveling, I'll splurge on smoked salmon and lightly cooked scrambled eggs.

travelmad478 Jan 15, 2018 10:55 pm

Greek and Turkish breakfasts are my absolute favorite. Fresh breads, cubes of super-creamy feta, jam, dried apricots, eggs, cucumbers and tomatoes, fresh fruit, yogurt, Turkish coffee...it does not get better. The best breakfast I’ve ever had in my life, hands down, was at the Hotel Yialasi in Ancient Epidavros, Greece. Outdoors, overlooking a grove of orange trees and the sea, deep blue sky and bright sun...wow. More food just kept landing on the table, and we could have stayed there the whole day.

Unfortunately, the British scone is nothing like the southern US biscuit that I know and love. (Scones are great. But they are not southern biscuits.)

Badenoch Jan 16, 2018 6:12 am

It depends where I am. The breakfast I look forward to in the UK is two fried eggs and fried slices. When in America it is biscuits and gravy with Tabasco sauce.

Neither are eaten at home. I have a specific restaurant in the UK for the eggs and fried slices and one in the US for biscuits and gravy and rarely eat them anywhere else.

Craig6z Jan 16, 2018 7:04 am

:o Cold pizza

kerflumexed Jan 17, 2018 8:46 am

Eggs Benedict

Duke787 Jan 17, 2018 9:59 am

Siggi's + fruit + granola is my go to breakfast

On the road I'll substitute whatever Greek yogurt they have in the lounge (or that I go buy from the CVS / Target / 7-11).

On vacation I love the omelet station so egg white omelet is my go-to plus whatever fresh bread they have (ideally baguette or some other type of crusty bread).

Favorite travel breakfast was in Santorini last May. Stayed at the Astra Suites and they brought breakfast for us every morning (delicious egg white omelet with tomatoes and feta cheese for me) and put it on our outside deck so we were able to eat looking out at the incredible view of Santorini we had from our deck.

The best breakfast I ever had featured fresh pineapple and tap water outside on the patio at the Pioneer Hotel in Lahaina, Maui on my first trip to the islands.

Having grown up on the East Coast, I had never before tasted fresh pineapple that was fully ripened when picked. Everything I had tasted prior to that had been picked early and ripened (probably with ethylene) in transit. The real taste of freshly picked pineapple was like a Fourth of July celebration in my mouth.

I then took a sip of ice water, and the festivities continued. The water seemed as fresh as the pineapple, with no chemical taste. Don't know if they treat it, orwhether the sense of time and place heightened by appreciation.

The rest of the breakfast, I think, may have actually included fish, and was obviously not as memorable. But 35 years later, I can still celebrate that first taste of fresh pineapple.

Perhaps their judgment was clouded by the sight of all those baked beans. ;)
This is not necessarily my favorite, but I do feel the need to speak up on behalf of the humble bowl of porridge. Real porridge. Steel-cut oats, slow-cooked (and maybe even soaked first). Take all that healthful oaty goodness and add un-healthful cream and brown sugar. Yum.

Not to nitpick, but after 30+ years building fruit ripening facilities globally, I can assure you that pineapple does not ripen after it is picked, even with ethylene. You just got nice ripe pineapple as it should be.

work2fly Jan 18, 2018 12:11 pm

The best pineapple I've ever had was bought off a cart on the streets of Davao, Philippines.

It's amazing how good fruit can be when it's picked at the peak of ripeness and eaten almost immediately.

No doubt. Some of the best (if not the best) pineapple in the world are grown within 100 miles of Davao. I've had many straight out of the fields there.
Unfortunately, they are only exported to Asia and Europe. Most folks in the US will never see or taste one. Back to breakfast now....:)

trooper Jan 19, 2018 12:04 am

Yes... Pineapple does not belong at breakfast...... or on Pizza.....

(Now I'm ducking! lol)

deniah Jan 19, 2018 4:39 am

best:
chinese porridge. simple.
japanese medley... soup, rice, maybe pickled veg
or any other asian variant that are warm and savoury... pho, ramen, etc

good:
italian. coffee + cornetto (aka croissant). small, quick.
english baked beans is nice. roasted tomatoes and some eggs, too.
american bacon. american - not english bacon, australian bacon, any sort of german speck, none of that fakon stuff. cured and smoked pork belly strips.
oatmeal.

bad:
"continental breakfast".
in general just a smattering of cold or uncooked stuff. chunks of melon, cheeses and and ham. cup of yogurt and some olives. mehhhh

travelmad478 Jan 19, 2018 8:45 am

There should also be a discussion of “worst breakfast ever” (although we should specify non-airline breakfasts, because those would always win). My nomination for that would be the German/Danish cheap hotel breakfast: dry bread, slices of bologna, slices of cheap oily cheese, and bad coffee (in fact, at one youth hostel I stayed at in Germany, they didn’t even have coffee at all, just hot chocolate!)

Don't make the mistake of thinking that the UK is one country... You'll find a potato scone in a cooked breakfast in Scotland (they're nothing like plain scones, just to confuse matters).

milepig Jan 19, 2018 12:20 pm

I vote for leftover ribs, eaten cold while standing in front of the fridge with the door open.

ILuvParis Jan 19, 2018 6:53 pm

Medium rare grilled skirt steak, two eggs over easy, hash browns, toast. The key is the eggs. Yolks have to be runny but no "snot" on the whites. :)

Sure, but only when hot, fresh pizza is not available for breakfast. I had many of the latter at the pizzeria in SFO's T3 that was recently replaced....

trooper Jan 19, 2018 10:26 pm

Its OK to have pizza for breakfast as long as you call it "Italian Cheese Toast"....

Stampy Jan 20, 2018 12:15 pm

Western: Egg benedict & thick waffle
Oriental: Dim sum & Nasi Lemak (coconut milk flavored rice)

Whowouldanewman Jan 20, 2018 6:27 pm

My daily breakfast is Tillamook greek yogurt.

If if I am eating out, I prefer an omelette with toast and bacon.

HKTraveler Jan 20, 2018 7:19 pm

Warm savory soy bean milk with fried dough sticks. Fuhang in Taipei makes a really good version but that line can get really long

trooper Jan 20, 2018 7:52 pm

This whole thread makes me hungry....
