The only store bought tomatoes that still have any flavor are those orange cherry tomatoes. They seem to have engineered the flavor out of everything else.

Have to bring a few German/Scandinavian/Dutch/Flemish favourites into the equation:

Liver sausage on rye and butter, some onion rings, pickle spears and maybe a slight touch of thymian.

Matjes herring on hard boiled eggs, dill and onion rings.

Both require a strong cup of coffee and a traditional morning paper of choice (Frankfurter Allgemeine is a prime contender) to accompany for a perfect Lutheran morning...

If you have an airfryer, I recommend the breakfast sandwich from reddit's recipe:

Having been in Paris the past week plus, I am reminded that when you are there, few things beat a sandwiche mixte (jambon, emmental, beurre on a baguette) for breakfast, lunch and occasionally, dinner.

In 1995, I found it odd that Les Deux Magots served me a sandwich of just butter and cornichons. It was very good, but severely lacked in the fromage department...

Sounds like a about a $35 lunch. I'm not sure there is a bigger ripoff anywhere, other than the place across the street.

Lox, onions, and a generous smear of cream cheese on a poppyseed bagel. Preferably from a jewish deli.

No kidding? I haven't been to Paris since '98 - can't complain about where I've been since, though - is that where only tourists eat?

What would your typical breakfast (sandwich) be in Paris, in addition to the sandwich you mentioned earlier?

In the US: Biscuits with sausage gravy with large chunks of spicy sausage. And good buttery crisp hash browns.

In Taiwan: Dan bing ( 蛋饼) a kind of crepe with egg and green onions rolled up inside). And freshly made soy milk.

I think tourists go to Deux Magots or Cafe de Flore because of Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, etc., though I'm sure some French must. I've heard it spoken as I pass by.

The sandwich I mentioned really isn't a breakfast sandwich - I just happen to like it for breakfast. I'm not sure whether anyone else does. I don't know that the French are big on breakfast sandwiches. I haven't noticed. When you can go to a boulangerie or patisserie and get fresh croissants, mini quiches, etc., I'm not sure that anyone would think of a breakfast sandwich. Perhaps someone else can help us out.

How about breakfast burritos - the food of choice for local New Mexicans and many visitors? When in Albuquerque, look for Twisters or Golden Pride and have at it.... With green chile of course. Except for the SouthValley burrito at Twisters - that one comes with red to go with chorizo, eggs, and potatoes inside a flour tortia.

btw, the chicken joint in Breaking Bad was based on and filmed in one of the Twisters

If we're allowed breakfast burritos, then I'll have to add a Mysore-style masala dosa into the mix.

Fermented rice-flour pancake, spread with a chilli and garlic chutney, filled with a mustard-seed, chilli, ginger and turmeric-spiced potato and onion masala, served with a fiery and tamarindy sambar and some coconut chutney.

Breakfast doesn't get better than that.

Anyone have one of those breakfast machines from Hamilton Beach (or maybe Black and Decker?) that makes the breakfast sandwich all at once? It looks great.
