We tried a new local Italian restaurant yesterday. It only opened on Tuesday and was 3/4 full last night which seemed a good sign. The nenu wasn't huge but there were some interesting sounding dishes.
I had baked aubergine stuffed with ricotta to start and then gnocchi with mushrooms and leeks in a white wine sauce which was delicious. Possibly the best gnocchi that I've ever had.
I finished with dark chocolate mousse but managed to steal some of my husband's tiramisu which was served in a cup and saucer and was amazing and very light and foamy. Not the stodgy stuff that you sometimes get.
I think we'll be visiting again in the not so distant future.

More crap from airports and on airplanes.
Last night I went to the Pacific Dining Car in Los Angeles and dined very well. Scallops in lobster sauce with spinach then rack of lamb with green beans (and some of my brother's Mac and Cheese).
We also drove to In-N-Out Burger by LAX for a dessert of a Double Double animal style and shakes.

-Raisin Bran cereal with milk
-Seapoint Farms brand roasted soybeans with goji berries
-Gala apple
-Snyder's butter snaps pretzels with cream cheese
-Probably salmon and potatoes later, with something green

Char Kway Teo from a hawker stand. Sugar Cane juiced right in front of me and also fresh star fruit juice. A good lunch!
It was the best char kway teo I've had.

Today's highlight: feta, tomato, and basil scramble from a local establishment that serves breakfast all day (well, until they close at 3, anyway). Came with toast and lovely, crisp roasted potatoes with herbs.
The enormous strawberries Mr. Fwoomp picked up at some roadside market on his journey home today are also quite good...and we still have a huge box left.

Having a dinner party tonight and we made these appetizers - foie gras on toasted brioche with pomegranate/date puree, topped by pomegranate seeds. Very, very tasty - they went fast

We had a bbq here yesterday for mum's birthday so lots of sausages, burgers and chicken.
This evening we're going to a bbq to celebrate my brother in law's sister's husband's (still with me
) 60th so there'll probably be sausages, burgers and errr chicken.
I rarely eat meat so this weekend is overdose!

Singapore Hawker Food
I thought I'd post a few of the meals we had during our recent 16 day visit to Singapore .... to be honest just a badly photographed selection ... of course you forget to photograph most of the food particularly if you are anxious to eat it
.. so this is a cross section ... some of it even half-eaten.
We started off naturally enough At T5 CCR

... and then on to the hawker centers, food halls and anything else that seemed edible ...

Damn that looks good uk1, and you posted it just when I'm starting to get hungry for lunch too!
Meanwhile, all I've had today is instant oatmeal and coffee. Sigh, it's cheap, quick and easy
