That's the right word for it. Not the kind of thing you'll sit around drinking all day/night, but "decent".

Yeah; it reminded me of some of the Southern Tier beers I've had (aside from their IPAs): cloying, almost to the point of being sickeningly-sweet & rich. Good to sip, good to sample, but not something I want to finish a couple of pints of in a sitting.

Just had what, to my taste, is the best stout on Earth: Deschutes Obsidian. God, what a delicious beer.

Happy to be back in the U.S., where interesting beer gets made very well. New Zealand and Australia have their charms, but boy, is beer not one of them. The craft brewery I went to in Wellington (Garage Project) has great art but would be a very poor man's version of any respectable craft brewery in Brooklyn.

Picked up some Slyfox 113 IPA at the grocery store. Never heard of them or had it before, but the IPA is very solid overall. I did pick up a double IPA from Garage Project in NZ, called Pernicious Weed, that I will break out when friends are over to enjoy.

Added Hop Nosh IPA (from a brewery in Salt Lake City - pretty decent flavors overall, not too bitter) and Bronx Brewery's No Resolutions Double IPA (break that out another time, possibly tomorrow).

La Chouffe Golden Ale.

Picked up a Jever pils to give the style another try - quite a few people love pils - and see if my tastes have changed. Nope, still not a fan of pils or lagers in general. Ales - especially Belgian ones - are generally unbeatable.

Hoisted a few at The Craft Bar at the beach Saturday. I had a Cigar City DeMolen Imperial Stout and a Thirsty Dog Bourbon Barrel Aged Siberian Night.

Also tried a sample of Crafted Snowbelt Cyser - it's a mead/cider, flavored with cranberry, vanilla and cinnamon. It was like a cranberry champagne. very interesting and worth trying a full glass next visit if it's still there.

Took an overnight train trip on which you're invited to bring your own alcohol. My friend I was traveling with brought me some great local California IPAs. Sadly, there aren't fridges on the train but I made it work:
