just wanted to follow up to say that at this time DL is not officially sponsoring this. there is a group of us working on proposed agenda, etc that i hope to present internally early next week.

Road Warrior Training, on the other hand, I can help organize relatively easily. it's other stuff that i'm working on trying to do that i have to discuss with DL.

DWD... I can't speak for everyone, but I know many of us on here, really appreciate all your work and effort to pull this together. This is something that has been talked about for years, and it looks like we are getting much closer to making it a reality. It would be great if Delta would step up and help sponsor the event, but from reading the earlier threads on this, I know you are getting volunteers from Delta to help out, and again, outstanding!! and thanks to everyone willing to help out here. I am sure we find some way to reward "ya'll" for the efforts, so as we get closer, let us know, who helped to pull this event together.

As I said earlier, I am from ATL, and I am sure others on here from ATL, would be very willing to help you pull this together. So, don't hesitate to ask, we are a community, and I know with everyone's help we can pull this together.

Okay, I get behind on my FT reading and find that I'm 10 pages into the thread. :( I'd be interested in whatever type of event this winds up developing into.

While I haven't had the opportunity to meet DeltaWebDev, I did get to meet Canarsie at the mini-Do that was held in ATL a couple of years back (when we got to tour Ship #41). Thanks to both of them for their initiative. ^

PS - I'd def be willing to help once things shape up. Depending on the type of event it becomes, I don't know if my skills would be useful or not, but I'll def offer.

well due to the actions of one it seems this will be done without Delta. Sorry.

Sorry to hear this, DWD. Though I must admit, I'm not quite sure what one had to do with the other. I guess someone at DL just isn't too happy with FTers right now?

I still hope you can put something together. Otherwise, we'll have to fall back Plan B: Canarsie's backyard for steaks. ;)

If that's the case, I think it's safe to conclude to that Delta was looking for a reason to say "no", and this convenient but petty excuse just happened to come along.

With 186,000+ members (and several times as many lurkers) there are all sorts of FlyerTalkers from all walks of life. Some are more discrete than others; some are more tactful than others.

Continental DO II was preceded by a breech that had far more consequences in terms of time & hassle by both Chase & Continental in dealing with the backlash, yet CO DO II continued on track and the person who found & publicized the loophole was thanked by Continental management for pointing out the problem.

Between the smallness shown in this decision and postponing the shareholders' meeting which a number of FlyerTalkers were planning to attend, I think we're seeing the true colors of Delta management.

I agree with Mike here, what a lame, lame excuse of a reason. Thanks for your efforts DWD, you work with a great number of good people, it is a shame that some members of management behave like spoiled children with such a disproportianate response that once again punishes many for the actions of a few (in this case one who was acting alone). Is that being "best in class"? Again, thanks for trying.

Thanks for copying my post, ADLFO. I was going to delete it in the other thread in favor of this one but got distracted by real work.

I think we all need to make an effort not to blame either DeltaWebDev or Burj for what has transpired.

The expression "cutting off your nose to spite your face" comes to mind. The DO would have been a great PR opportunity, even if not on the level with what CO did.

(sometimes it seems like someone, maybe just a single person, or maybe a corporate consciousness, very high up at DL is determined to make CO look good)

All...if Delta does not want to stand behind you I am willing to go head up a DO with Skywest and ASA if they will agree. Our two companies have been focused on giving the best customer service to our most loyal members. Granted you probably won't get to see the 747 or 777, but I think it is something both parties can get something out of. We have been doing many great things within our company and I would like to extend a hand to the DL Fters if DL will not follow through.

ADLFO Mar 24, 2009 6:52 pm

Thanks zsmith2, if the dates work, I would be honored to accept an invitation to a DO hosted by your companies.

Thanks for your reply. If we could get more interest in this I will contact the appriopate parties. One thing off the top of my head that the DO would incorporate would be some of the upcoming new deliveries of the CRJ-900s.

jackplum Mar 24, 2009 7:03 pm

I have the contact for the Road Warrior Training so we could still have the Official Unauthorized DL DO at a convenient date.

The Hilton is near DL HQ and would be a good location in case any DL staffers wanted to surreptitiously visit a DO.

Just need a number and I will get some potential dates. (For the training, Dov, not for you!)

I agree that there must be more to this story to pull the plug. I have been in contact with a few SkyMiles staff who were excited about the opportunity

I'd definitely be interested. Either SLC or ATL works for me as well...
