DL do?

Hey folks I see on all other boards that I follow that they regularly do "dos" or get togethers. Have we ever had one here on the DL side?

mersk862 Feb 28, 2009 12:27 pm

There's been two - one was in ATL about two years ago (the Velvet Rope Event) and the other in CVG, also about two years ago.

CO is the primary airline that has DOs - they've had the four legendary ones in IAH, and a few smaller ones at EWR. UA has had a couple of smaller ones, and NW has had a smaller couple of DOs. I don't recall AA or US ever doing one.

I think it'd be fun

I think SAS did one, a trip to a boeing plant in SEA.

We've been hoping for a couple years for a Road Warriors training DO, but that doesn't seem to have gone anywhere. (that one would include training in the safety procedures, including popping the hatch and sliding down the emergency chute... I'd pay skymiles for that one!)

Odd that you would bring it up...

DL's "Road Warriors" class was referenced yesterday on Delta's Blog! I read about it an thought it would be a fun experience.

DeltaWebDev Mar 4, 2009 4:24 am

i took the photos for the blog in case anyone wants to see more of the facilities.

UNHBuzzard Mar 4, 2009 10:15 am

I'm willing to volunteer my time to organize something if y'all are interested.

Gargoyle Mar 4, 2009 12:08 pm

What is the cost per person and the minimum/maximum group size for Road Warrior Training?

There is one coming soon:

The class action lawsuit over the award calendar! We'll have a big old time!! :D:D

We had one in CVG a couple years ago. DL was not a sponsor but did assist in the events (tours & breakfast).

Last I recall, icorproadie was working on it

GaryO3 Mar 4, 2009 4:05 pm

I'm stuck in Cincinnati until July, so it something came along at CVG I would definitely try to attend :D

jackplum Mar 4, 2009 4:05 pm

Just fired off an email to the Road Warrior Training contact so we'll see what comes from it. I did stress the PR aspect that was discussed when this first came up as well as that we are "Delta's Best Customers."

Do I misunderstand what a "do" is? This thread sounds like we're confusing a "do" (mainly social) with a separate type of event ("road warrior training")?

MikeMpls Mar 4, 2009 4:39 pm

The Road Warrior Training course has been planned as an event for a DO for 2-3 years; it just hasn't happened yet. If & when the instigators ever get it arranged, you can count on a DO centered around it.

i'd be interested in knowing what the level of interest is for a "do" (i still seem to forget what the d and o stand for) WITH an event such as the road warrior training. more importantly, if it was on your dime what's the level of interest. Canarsie and i have spoken about it previously, and i do have the go ahead to put something together. the request of me is to provide a rough itinerary, list of participants and employee help, etc. i do agree with canarsie that aiming for the delta block party weekend (not sure when it is this year) would be ideal.

the approval i have presently is for at most 2 groups of 8 to 12 people (if i remember right). if that's the level of interest then no sweat. if there are a lot more interested, then i might need to go back and have some conversations at work about how to accommodate more.

so here are a couple of questions:
1) if you were responsible for your travel and hotel, would this impact your decision to attend?
2) of those that would attend, would you be ok with signing an nda?
3) would anyone have issues with providing their flyertalk name with their real name and skymiles number?
4) of those still left desiring to attend, would my attendance make you change your mind? j/k! ;)

i ask these questions as my desire when i got permission was to "open it all up" and provide as much information regarding process, projects, timelines, etc as possible within the time, along with some tours of things that otherwise are not available (such as the road warrior training, etc).

NHFL9 Mar 5, 2009 10:40 am

1) if you were responsible for your travel and hotel, would this impact your decision to attend?
-Would certainly go on my own expense, can't imagine DL would fly us in for free, but that would be sweet if they did :D Just let me know when the 777-200LR is arriving to pick me up at BDL!
2) of those that would attend, would you be ok with signing an nda?
-Sure, as long as it is reasonable ;)
3) would anyone have issues with providing their flyertalk name with their real name and skymiles number?
-Prefer not to, but not a deal breaker
4) of those still left desiring to attend, would my attendance make you change your mind? j/k! ;)
-Yes, absolutely :p

Yes, Mrs. Gargoyle and I would love to attend, especially if the Road Warrior training is included.

1. We'd still attend. I wouldn't expect DL to provide the hotel, but if they want to non-rev us that would be lovely. :)
2. A reasonable nda is fine. Just make it clear what we can and can't post afterwards on FT.
3. Lots of people at DL, including high up, already know who we are, so I have no problem with giving our real name and number.
4. We'd love to meet you; your attendance will be a bonus.

1. No, of course we are responsible for travel and hotel, a discount flight code/ecert would be a bonus, but not required.
2. No problem with signing an NDA
3. No problem at all
4. No your attendance would be both welcomed and encouraged.

Would really love to bring Mrs. ADLFO, so treat this as 2 more interested.

goodandclassy Mar 5, 2009 11:24 am

I'd DO it! Ha

1) if you were responsible for your travel and hotel, would this impact your decision to attend?
Um, I would like to see a hotel arranged actually - would make for better networking after hours :)
2) of those that would attend, would you be ok with signing an nda?
Sure, no prob
3) would anyone have issues with providing their flyertalk name with their real name and skymiles number?
no problem here either
4) of those still left desiring to attend, would my attendance make you change your mind? j/k!
i don't know... :P
non-issue as well :)

UNHBuzzard Mar 5, 2009 11:32 am

1) if you were responsible for your travel and hotel, would this impact your decision to attend? Not at all! Burn the points!
2) of those that would attend, would you be ok with signing an nda? Yep!
3) would anyone have issues with providing their flyertalk name with their real name and skymiles number? Sure, my SM # & pin are... jk. No problem.
4) of those still left desiring to attend, would my attendance make you change your mind? Dreamweaver 4 life.

jackplum Mar 5, 2009 12:15 pm

No problem on any of them but non-rev would be nice as Gargoyle mentioned.

Of course, non-rev earning MQMs would be even better! ;)

I would be interested, assuming this would be in Atlanta, and it didn't conflict with already scheduled travel.

1) no problem, and wouldn't be a non-issue for me if in ATL
2) not a problem
3) I think Jeff and some others already know all of it--it's no big secret
4) would hope that you were there.

MikeMpls Mar 5, 2009 12:32 pm

1) Not a problem, providing our own transportation & to such events is customary.
2) Depends on the nature of the NDA. Is it a specific requirement for RWT, or just a general catch all? CO, for example, has never required a NDA for its mega-DO's.
3) Normal way of doing business here. DL & CO have always vetted people for past events.
4) Is there something we don't know that should be a source of concern? :D

Thank you for posting this publicly, DeltaWebDev.

I did not want to say anything definitive until you were ready.

As I said to you via the telephone, I will do whatever I can to help make this event a success. We have discussed some ideas that would simply make the mouth of a Delta forum FlyerTalk member water, but ultimately it is up to DeltaWebDev and Delta Air Lines to finalize what to offer to Delta forum FlyerTalk members who wish to attend this event...

...and yes, the first event is tentatively scheduled to be at the headquarters of Delta Air Lines in Atlanta. I have been there several times, and I have also been to the block party weekend. Accordingly, I have posed several suggestions to DeltaWebDev on what to offer and schedule for this event.

icurhere2 Mar 5, 2009 12:50 pm

1) if you were responsible for your travel and hotel, would this impact your decision to attend?

Not at all, although DL could chip in if they wish.

2) of those that would attend, would you be ok with signing an nda?

Depends upon what it covers. I need photos after the official event for leverage in The Lounge.

3) would anyone have issues with providing their flyertalk name with their real name and skymiles number?

I'll provide pretty much everything except SSN.

4) of those still left desiring to attend, would my attendance make you change your mind?

Of course not.

jbatl Mar 5, 2009 12:53 pm

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

1) No prob.
2) Sure.
3) Don't love the idea, but if others say it's SOP, I'm cool with it.
4) Bring the whole IT department! ;)

(Count me among the interested.)

EDIT: Added my answers to the poll.

1) if you were responsible for your travel and hotel, would this impact your decision to attend?

I live here in Atlanta, so no impact whatsoever.

2) of those that would attend, would you be ok with signing an nda?

Sure, assuming there's nothing in there about surrendering my first-born son or anything.

3) would anyone have issues with providing their flyertalk name with their real name and skymiles number?

No problem.

AndyTLe Mar 5, 2009 1:10 pm

My answers were first in the poll. Much harder than the DL Exit Row questions.

A poll has been added to this thread for DeltaWebDev to graphically gauge the answers to his questions.

By the way, DeltaWebDev — that was more than a couple of questions...

1) if you were responsible for your travel and hotel, would this impact your decision to attend? I'm fine with paying for my air and hotel.
2) of those that would attend, would you be ok with signing an nda? No problem.
3) would anyone have issues with providing their flyertalk name with their real name and skymiles number? No problem.
4) of those still left desiring to attend, would my attendance make you change your mind? j/k! ;) It would be an incentive. :)

MikeMpls Mar 5, 2009 1:34 pm

The poll is a much better way to gather the data. :)

Note that my issue with the NDA depends on its scope. However, I tend to have a lot of conflicts scheduling these things < 4 months out, so my qualms might not matter much.

atldlff Mar 5, 2009 1:41 pm

Count me in...

1) if you were responsible for your travel and hotel, would this impact your decision to attend? I am assuming it would be in ATL, so I wouldn't have to travel, but if not, I'm fine with paying for my air and hotel.

2) of those that would attend, would you be ok with signing an nda? Sure

3) would anyone have issues with providing their flyertalk name with their real name and skymiles number? No issues

4) of those still left desiring to attend, would my attendance make you change your mind? j/k! :-)

DeltaWebDev Mar 6, 2009 5:38 am

thanks for adding the survey Canarsie. :D

DLfan Mar 6, 2009 5:50 am

I am very interested in such an event and paying my own air/hotel, signing an NDA, providing the requested data is no problem and meeting you would be a bonus. I have completed the poll to help you track the results.

Just to be clear, are we discussing a Delta sponsored event or an informal Delta FlyerTalker DO?
