Breezeway Boarding Procedure
Can someone clarify the procedure? I thought that any Medallion member can board at any time, up to and including when F is called first to board as long as Breezeway is on their BP? Boarding a 900 yesterday from IAH-SLC (ugggh...mainline PLEASE) I thought I could board with F (I was in Y). I was told to hold on and wait my turn. I felt like a complete idiot :D

It has been tweaked a little bit. Zone 1 is for F only.

FYI, this was FIXED after much negative feedback from first class customers(it may actually be a rare instance when an airline listened to its customers). Thank goodness.

I believe the problem was that if you were in 1st class, your BP said - Zone 1 and Breezeway. If you were in coach and Medallion / ST Elite, your BP said Zone 2 and Breezeway. Then, at boarding, the GA's always said, Zone 1 and Breezeway boarding - so ALL pax with Breezeway on their BP's boarded!!
Now, they've changed their boarding announcements to say - something like - Breezeway, Zone 1 only, FC - then, Breezeway, Zones 1 & 2, Medallion and ST Elite members. I think the BP's still read the same as before. |
I wish they boarded international flights with the middle or both a/c doors.

FC boards, then breezway is available.
IMHO, one of the dumbest expenses they have incurred over the time I have been flying with them. CMH is almost solely RJ service and they have the signs and carpets. Why pay for that, who cares? I can understand on a mainline AC with a large pax load, but who decided to purchase this stuff for a ERJ 135? |

I used Breezeway a few days ago in YYZ to board a CRJ100 and found it to be quite nice to get on before a string of children tried to navigate the stairs and their parents fumbled with folding down strollers. |
This is one of those things that clearly is handled differently throughout the system. Plus, gate agents seem either uniterested in the breezeway boarding procedure or are so consumed with other things they don't have time to enforce it.

I have a post somewhere - flying NW recently where I asked the GA why she wasn't using the "Red Carpet" (it was roped off) and I was actually told - after a HUGE sigh - something like - Oh, It's just too far away!!! (I realize that FLL has some special circumstances due to more families than most airports), which is exactly why they SHOULD use / enforce it! I've found that DL constantly announces the procedure - often times explaining how it works during each boarding zone. I wish NW would do that, but I don't think that many of the NW GA's even realize or understand the reason WHY the system was created!! |

I have not flown DL since the new Breezeway guidelines were published. I will get my chance this weekend.
BUT...I did fly NW this month: VPS-MEM-DTW-NRT-MSP-MEM-VPS. No red carpet at VPS. But at the other airports, they did not seem to be using their elite boarding lane at all. I stood in the red carpet lane at MEM and was totally ignored. Finally I just went over to the regular line. I learned my lesson from that experience and did not try again on any of the other flights. After all our complaints about Breezeway since it was first implemented, I was surprised to find that NW's similar program worked even worse! Or, rather, that NW did not even pretend to use it (on my flights, anyway). I hope DL has worked the bugs out by now. |

Breezway should have a seperate agent to work better. On Flight last week they just had 1 agent and she rotated lines between Breezeway and regular Boarding. I do not recall them calling first and Breezeway. As soon as they anounced Boarding everyone was in one of the two lines. Seems like a waste.
