Confirmed on my trip back from CVG today. Like an idiot I didn't get in the breeeway line in ATL to board my last leg and damn, the GA held me up to let others pass. Must mean I have to start using the lane more often now.

Any use of the breezeway line in zones 1, 2 and 3 is retarted. Delta certainly hasn't helped the fact by adding "Now boarding zone 1 and breezeway" to the Gate screens. It essentially implies all medallions can board in zone 1.

The other day with an upgrade list of nearly 45 people on DCA to ATL, the GA made a verbal annoucment "now boarding Zones 1, 2 and 3" when starting boarding... it was chaos. Half the plane.

Exactly, that's the main problem. All the medallions are lining up in Breezeway and the Zone 1 passengers are just sitting in line as ALL of those passengers board before them.

Frankly, until they fix the system I am going to NEVER get in the regular line and always board in the breezeway. I know it's not correct, but it's better than sitting in line watching fellow medallions walk by. "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

So, I guess FO's (like myself and my wife) no longer have to wait until Zone 2 or 3 to board anymore, huh?

All Medallions and F just board as one big cattle call at the beginning from now on? Yeah, that's just stupid.

I completely agree that it's the wrong way to run the Breezeway, but I think you and others are confused about what DL's actual plan for Breezway is. From the text below, you can see that DL's "Now boarding zone 1 and breezeway" is exactly what they meant to say--they designed Breezeway to allow all Medallions to board at once.

What we need to do is contact DL and tell them that as Medallions, we don't want Breezeway to work like that--we'd prefer that pax board by zone for the Medallion zones, and then allow any Medallion to board via Breezeway after that time.

From DL's press release on Breezeway (my bolding):
Elite customers flying Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) within the United States now have a dedicated lane at each airport gate allowing them priority boarding anytime during the process – not just when their zone is called.

I still think they need to board the first class cabin first, then breezway after. Now they say Zone one and Breezeway (which includes all those medallions in zone 2&3). on a 767-400 that's potentially 70 people boarding at once!

Wow, great post Clarence. I totally agree that we all missed the point, myself included.

And yes, I also think you're right that we have to tell Delta, "Thanks, but no thanks."

Heck, I was on a 737 from ATL-BOS where I was 72nd on the upgrade list (and there were 5 after me!) - I'm an FO ;)

72nd on upgrade list, what a waste for them to even go that far in to the list....way to go delta

I missed the point as well, and it definitely needs to be reconsidered. I find it hard to believe that some Exec (or maybe intern) at Delta actually thought it would be a good idea to board coach customers (even if they are elites) at the same time as paying first class passengers. I don't ever purchase first class and I think its ridiculous. Plus, did any elite ever complain about having to wait to board in zone 2?

Medallion heavy flights seem eerily similar to the cattle call of southwest these days. Line up early, get on first.

Maybe they are finally doing something to add some rigour to the BREEZEWAY process? I am traveling in X by the way, so it doesn't matter for me anyway. ^
