I agree that it's a good idea, but needs to be uniformly implemented. I was leaving ATL a couple of days ago, and they called zone 1. Half got in general boarding, and half in the breezeway. They would not allow anyone in the general boarding line to board the plane until everyone in the breezeway had boarded. The poor guy at the front had to wait and wait, and of course the people at the back of the general line started moving over to the breezeway, so the first guy in line was the LAST one to get to board.

They really need to standardize. If everyone knew which line to use, I believe it could be an excellent perk. As it is now, if you're in zones 1-3 it's a crapshoot.....

I do think that Zone 1 should not have to compete with any other groups.

My ideal would be for Medallions to use breezeway only if they missed boarding when their zone was called.

The way it's happening now, it often looks like a two-lane stampede with Zone 1 and elites in one lane, and everyone else in the other.

Breezeway boarding does not work.

They should get rid of it. It just makes boarding more chaotic then it already is on full flights.

Agreed, agreed, and agreed.

To answer the question of which one to use, it depends on the GAs. It is a toss up--sometimes on the Breezeway side, the GAs there will hold up the other side, even when F/zone 1 is called for boarding. Other times, they want you on the side with the scanner.

Using a special lane may be great for CO, but DL uses zone boarding, which is more ordered. I find little use it, other than for showing up late at the gate in the situation that DLFan2 described.

Zones 2&3 also include bulkhead passengers, so, indeed, some of them may not be Medallion. Not that it matters, as these zones are typically smaller.

I thought bulkhead pax were in Zone 1.

Worst thing I've seen implemented at DL in months. Wait, Cash & Miles takes the cake. Dang, this is a bad trend.

"BREEZEWAY" printed on boarding pass...

Hi Folks,

FYI - I just reprinted my boarding pass in for flight 73 (JFK-->SFO) in JFK at the kiosk, and for the first time ever, it has "BREEZEWAY" printed underneath the words "BOARDING PASS". i.e. on the header of the stub portion of the boarding pass it says:

BOARDING PASS
BREEZEWAY
TASK/FORCEDL
PLATINUM/ELITEPLUS
2288******

This was not present when I checked in on line last night and did not happen when I flew out to JFK yesterday.

Did DL just start doing this today and are other members seeing this?

Maybe they are finally doing something to add some rigour to the BREEZEWAY process? I am traveling in X by the way, so it doesn't matter for me anyway. ^

What is your zone? Is it now just "Breezeway" or do you still have a zone #?

GoCanes Feb 20, 2008 2:44 pm

What is "TASK/FORCEDL"????

Oh wait, just realized that is your handle... ha... I thought it was a new security measure... :)

I am pretty sure if your name showed up as TASK/FORCEDL on your boarding pass, you would be "randomly selected by the airline for additional screening". LOL

(I did that to hide my real name, btw). :)

I can confirm this. Must be a new way for GA's to identify this 'useless' feature. Anyone that's BREEZEWAY is in Zones 1-3 so I don't really get it....

avflyer Feb 20, 2008 4:02 pm

This actually makes sense. As others have stated, sometimes zones 1-3 board on the standard lane while sometimes GA's say board on the Breezeway. Well apparently Delta is going to make this stick. Breezeway here we come. For those nay sayers, give it time.

Tomphot Feb 20, 2008 4:14 pm

I saw it used this week - they called zone 1 - we were all in line and some guy walks around us all to the Breezeway - the GA stops us and takes his BP - I asked the GA why she took him when everybody in the regular line was in zone 1 - she told me they always take the Breezeway first anytime.

You can have non-medallions in Zone 1 (Bulkhead Y pax)

mersk862 Feb 20, 2008 4:27 pm

My boarding pass for tomorrow says Breezeway right dead-center of the BP under the words BOARDING PASS. Right above the ticket number and the PNR locator.
