The problem is that more has to be done about the hords of people who just crowd the gate area waiting for their zone. I have never seen anything quite like it and it seems like it justs get worse. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this? I think if you fix this issue, the breeze way and everything else will work a lot better. I think GA's have to really get out there and push people aside (like crowd control). So get on the pa system and ask people to clear and when they don't, physically go out there and "guide" the people out of the way. It is just so annoying the crowds of people waiting around to board.

Well, we'll see how it goes...

There should be room for your carryon in first if you are last to board, especially if there are people waiting for upgrades to clear.

Perhaps medallions should act like OnePass elites and hord around the little carpet when they are boarding FC like the non-elites do when they are boarding medallions.

Maybe.

The problem has gotten better since the 1+1 has been more rigidly enforced by TSA, but I've still seen plenty of times where the bins in the front cabin are full when only half the seats are full. Depends on the aircraft and configuration - the MD's seem to be the worst of the bunch as the wider bins are only on one side, and the 75's/76's seem to be the best.

See i saw the Domestic 763 with 24 in front full before 1/2 the front was full the other day, People were upset that they had to go half way thru coach to put their bag.

My only experience with this is a bad one. They called boarding in ALB, zone 1. I walked up and was second in line. Then some goofball decided to bypass the 3 people in line by using the breezeway. Funny thing was that they took him before me.

I am sure that everybody in line was medallion. I am also sure that I would have felt stupid using the line as this was a Comair flight that looked to be about 1/3 full.

It doesn't really matter to me when I get on the plane. I don't carry my luggage with me. I have an assigned seat. I will get to my seat before the plane leaves and I will land when everybody else does.

When I need to carry-on my bag, I am in Coach, and I behind 30+ people in the line I will use the breezeway. Until then, I will give it the same respect as the Perferred Bag Tag.

There is really no reasonable excuse except for the fact that the fellow FC passengers are either bringing too much on board or shoving both their rollercases and personal bags up top along with jackets (although jackets should be given to FA) thus limiting the space for the other FC passengers. I imagine the FC FA should be helping / monitoring how bags are going up top. I do notice a lot of passengers, even in FC, throw their rollercase sideways instead of long ways on aircraft that allow long ways and then quickly shut the overhead bin.

There are only 4 rows for 24 people, I only had one bag, others that I saw only had their two bags, but I can see how with 24 people and only 4 rows of seats in F they could fill that quick.

For those gates with only one ticket scanner it would be beneficial if DL placed the scanner at the end of the velvet rope so the elites boarding do not have to reach across other passengers when presenting their BP
Completely agree. I don't want to be that guy in the breezeway further from the BP scanner having to cross over in front of the general pax trying to board. This would make it less confrontational.

Oh, yeah. I forgot about the 76's with the old bins. Yep, those fill really quickly. And a lot of passengers are unwilling to help their fellow flyers.

I'm going to take the CO FFs' advice and start boarding all flights via Breezeway, regardless of which zone has been called.

PDX-RDM-AVL-TPA Dec 5, 2007 2:43 pm

My Breezeway experiences have generally been positive. Although they do need to work on implementation a bit. I agree that they need to have a consistent policy of using the Breezeway for all FC and Elite boarding. This is typically not the case -- they often use it only after zones 1-3 (on mainline aircraft) have boarded. The other Breezeway threads on this forum (there are at least 2), have plenty of discussion about his issue.

Potay Dec 5, 2007 5:33 pm

The first time I experienced the Breezeway was last week at CVG going to LAX, where we had a mechanical delay, and I was walking around the terminal and when I returned they were already boarding Zones 1-5, and I was in Zone 1 flying in F. Had I not read the posts on what the Breezeway was for, I would have waited in line with the rest of the folks, but I decided to try it out. I walked up to the divider on the Breezeway, and within a few seconds another gate agent opened it up scanned my boarding pass, and let me through! Quite painless, but I felt like I was getting glares from the rest of the passengers... All in all, pretty useful if you want to get onto the plane (which i am generally not unless I'm trying to make sure there's still room for carryon baggage in the overhead).

deltaskymile Dec 5, 2007 5:40 pm

In my prior life before I became a road warrior... I didn't know such thing as Silver, Gold, or whatever medalion thinggy ever existed. I just thought those who got special treatment were special people... I wonder if non member/medallion see us this way... thus the glare or are they just upset someone is cutting in...

mikey1003 Dec 5, 2007 6:13 pm

I actually flew DL today. Don't ask!

Breezeway in ATL was a hoot.

All Medallions over here...rest of you there...No, sir, you must be over there.

It was like watching someone herding cats. It doesn't work.

NW is no better.

It is a marketing gimmick just like Priority Luggage tags

They took him before you because the "goofball" read the signs.
