Am I suppose to book 1 and then wait a few days and try booking another?

Thanks in advance!
I looked for 2 people in First/Business on delta.com, searching LAX-(SYD or MEL or BNE) and then the return separately.

I used several calendars, with one for outbound and one return. Then I broke each day down into 3 columns, to cover the 3 possible cities I could fly into.

It's important to ignore the calendar colors and actually check the dates. I switched LAX-ICN-AKL on KE to LAX-BNE-WLG on VA earlier this week, and even after I took that J seat, there were still at least two more J award seats on LAX-BNE for that date (mid-May 2013) available on DL.dumb. The award calendar showed nada, of course, since it only looks at DL inventory.

All you need is just go to DL website and test it. Does not even need to ask around / read around for outdated info.

July 2013:

JFK-LHR Flight 1
LHR-JFK Flight 2

2 tickets = 120,000 miles total.

Also booked LCY-FLR-LCY for $205 per ticket (non-award travel).

Really excited! Maybe I will surprise my mom and sister with purchasing Economy Choice upgrades :-)

Jul/Aug 2013.
100K $178 tax for 2 persons business class except CDG-AMS segment in coach.

MIA-FCO-CDG-ARN AZ/AF
All seat requests came back denied by KL so have to go thru CDG.

SVO-CDG-AMS AF
with a forced overnight at CDG. KL has 0 availability. SU added $38 YQ on each ticket, plus if 1st flight IRROP, 2nd flight would get us to AMS very late at night.

AMS-FCO-MIA AZ
with a forced overnight at FCO.

FWIW, DL system classifies ARN being destination and makes the portion starting from SVO being "return". (so AMS is classified as stopover then?)

Many thanks to several FTers who graciously helped me in booking our first DL awards, particularly mtkeller for verifying the validity of routing and michael_v for many valuable suggestions. Without your helps this DL non-flyer would have no idea how to book an award.

I just flew RO OTP-CDG on a new A318 and it had the blocked middle seat business configuration. That is why I asked. Perhaps the 737s are older. I guess RO is like red wine, the older, the better.
Just took this RO flight today. Had the A318 and it was 3x3 in J.

Success!

Within 4 hours, I was able to piece together 2 business class tickets for my parents to come over for my graduation in May. Best use of my 240, 000K Miles yet!

My senior year has now come full circle. Thanks to all the help from the FT community in helping me accrue these awesome miles.

I'm reading that it's two tickets for 240k, or 120k per ticket. That's pretty good, for asia. I did an open-jaw non-stop on NW to Japan years ago, and it was a challenge to get it for 120k (even back then)

It was more of a joke that the poster added the three 0s and then included the k. It would make it seem as if it were really 240,000,000 miles instead of the intended 240k.

EWR-CDG (on DL)
CDG-VIE (AF code share on OS metal)

VIEW-AMS-HEL (KL)

TLL-SVO-JFK (Aeroflot)
