Searched the forum but couldn't find the answer to this, so asking here:
I'm currently United Gold, but my United status expires on 1/31. Looking to do the challenge match to Delta.
I need the challenge to start no earlier than 1/28 in order to ensure I'll hit the miles required in the 90-day period. The question is, if I submit on 1/28 but they don't get to processing my match application until Feb, will they still respect my United status which expired on 1/31?

More seriously, is it wise to use a DL once-in-a-lifetime status match/challenge for the reduced benefits that GMs now receive? How much do you plan to use lounges on international trips before earning GM?

Yeesh, I'm out of practice
Mostly fly domestic -- although you make a good point. I was matching back to gold for:
- E+ (Although looks like GM is somewhat neutered here with their new Comfort+ thing)
- Same-day confirmed changes
- Priority security/boarding (but I have a Known Traveler ID, so I should always get pre-check)
The ST lounges are not really a factor -- don't travel international that much.
More generally though seems prudent to keep status somewhere, and I won't requalify based on MQDs alone.
Maybe not worth it? Hmmmm.... seems like they gutted the Alaska partnership too so that wouldn't work I take it?

If you can't requalify next year, what do you do then? You'd be burning your once in a lifetime status challenge with DL to get GM for a year and not fly all that much to enjoy the benefits.
Would it make sense to get a DL AmEx card for priority boarding and a free bag, plus perhaps some MQMs or even a MQD waiver if you spend enough?

Update: Tweeted @DeltaAssist today, and within 45 seconds of a "I'll check on it for you" reply Tweet, I got the match/challenge email (United Plat -> DL PM), indicating that my challenge would start tomorrow and my status would be updated.
I don't know if it's related at all... awfully coincidental not to be. This is after calling 4-5 times and phone support not able to do anything. Took exactly 3 weeks.

Looks like @DeltaAssist is the key to speeding up response from the status match team, after waiting a week with no response I sent a tweet and my status match was completed within 5 minutes.

Flying only. And not only that, it has to be on Delta metal (or Delta Connection/Shuttle)- partner flights do not count.

Has anyone else had any luck with DeltaAssist? I've tweeted them twice and haven't received a response. My attempt via phone only got me a promise from a rep that she would submit a query on my behalf to the team. My DL travel starts next week so I'm anxious to have it count.
