I emailed Delta, but got a useless response. Hopefully someone here has better answers to my questions:
  • How will it work for people not in window seats on the eclipse flights, DL1218 or DL1010?
  • What are the logistics of the other flights Delta has with prime eclipse-viewing opportunities, say DL 2869, LAX-SAT?

Thanks.

The most recent total eclipse in these parts took place in 1806 (Ohio became a state in 1803), and the next one won't be until 2444.

Enjoy!!!
The next one will be in 2044, so 20 years from now...not 420 years!

CBS News report about the Delta eclipse flight. Mentions the pilots plan to bank the airplane 30 degrees on each side to give passengers on both sides a chance to see the total eclipse.

I'm guessing poster means at that location. On average 400 years pass between an area seeing a total eclipse. Can happen much sooner (as Indiana is seeing) or much longer.

edit: and it’s gone.

I have been mystified what people in non-window seats expect to get out of this! I have a window seat and definitely selfishly won’t cooperate in any scheme to rotate people during the few minutes of totality. At best the person in the middle seat will sometimes be able to see past the window person to look straight out over the wing while the eclipse is overhead out of view.

I am also trying to understand how the flights like the LAX-SAT will work. Do you just hope you fly through totality at the right time? There were some window seats on the left side available, but I read you need to be on the right side of the plane for flights heading east.

Trying to even book a ticket on that flight regardless of seat, doesn't seem possible.

I'm a bit curious if seat-poaching will be an issue on boarding for this flight and perhaps even enough of an issue to delay departure.

Is anyone on DL1001 SLC-SAT? This is one of the alternatives that was mentioned in the first comm from Delta. I'll be hanging at the SLC club beforehand.

I just don't see DL1001 being in the right area, at right time. Just about as close as can get though.

Yeah. I didn't do the math. Hopefully it's somewhat interesting. If not, I'll get some tacos in the afternoon.
