Delta Eclipse Flight
Anyone considering it? I think it would be pretty darn cool.

Great viewing...from the right side. If your seat's on the left, not so much. :D :D :D

Well, it's too late now to book it. Sold out.
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1d16bb5fcc.png DFW-DTW flight around the same time is currently J9 Y9. Maybe DL is prepping to pitch that flight too. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c61d037307.png |
The sun will be 70 degrees up. So it may be only visible for the few seconds the plane is banking 30 degrees. Or maybe B/D passengers can rest their heads on the lap of A/E passengers and look up.

It’s really not going to work. The sun will be too high in the sky, and Delta’s legal fine print makes no guarantees. Delta is selling a flight to DTW as its primary goal, not a flight with eclipse viewing as primary goal.
this is just a publicity stunt. |
Definitely agree, just a stunt.

Article on Forbes which mentions what most of you all have said.
Is Delta Flight 1218 Really The Best Way To View April 8’s Total Solar Eclipse? (forbes.com) |
Hopefully it works out better than UA's two NYE flight: https://www.businessinsider.com/unit...e-twice-2024-1

Flying to DFW that morning. No rental cars available to drive to my friend's ranch out east, but it'll be 99% total from the parking decks.
|
It may be a stunt and it may be codified in the fine print, but you all know that sometime this fall there will probably be some dumb head who files a complaint or lawsuit that he or she was "sold an eclipse flight" but didn't get the full experience.
|
I happened to check out the flight when it was still pretty empty, but like everyone else here has said, its kind of gimmicky. The views of the shadow on the earth are probably the coolest bit about this flight, but will get old after a few minutes.
Anyone who is close enough to see this, just understand, 95-99% compared to 100% is LITERALLY Day and Night difference. Get yourself into the path of 100% totality, you won't regret it. |
Was gonna do it on Southwest but I have a ticket to The Masters that day...whaaa! :)
Info on their eclipse flights, maybe there's availability:https://www.southwestairlinesinvesto...2023-150037374 |
