E175 Overhead
Friend and I are flying on an e175, DCA to JFK on Delta to catch a BA flight to London. We'll each have a carry-on suitcase and backpack, and are sitting in 1C and 1D. Wondering about the chances we'll get our bags gate checked (assume we board w/ our group, etc.).

You joke, but given my experience with United and AA on small planes like this, even flying in F, it's not always guaranteed that the bin space above you will be open (seemingly, on some of these routes, half the plane is ConciergeKey or 1K or Global Services, even if not in F...).
Thanks for the speedy response!

Should be OK if you board with your assigned group.
Some things to consider:
1. The luggage bins on the D/C side are regular-sized, but those on the A side are considerably smaller to match the 1-2 layout, so be aware that whoever is sitting in 1A may be looking to stow their bag over your head if its too big for their bin.
2. You wont be able to stow your backpack underneath the seat in front of you as youre at the bulkhead, so youll need to find space overhead for both pieces of luggage, unless seats are available further back in the cabin and you can select those instead/wish to move.

I would make sure to board early with F and definitely no later than C+/Sky. The challenge with 1C and 1D is you don't have underseat storage.
The bins in F are shallow on the "A" side so depending on the size of your backpack they won't necessarily fit which means you need to be boarding with F so at a minimum you either get space in F right above you or at the worst you end up with your bags at the front of C+.
I have been late to board on CR9/E175s a few times this year (been cutting it a bit too close with when I leave my house) and I've been forced to gate check my bags a couple of times as a result because there was no space left in the overheads

Just to be clear, CR9s offer valet pink tag service while E175s do not.

bin space goes fast even up front on the E175s.
