At a minimum, I recommend her fly another airline TLH-CAE-SLC. However have you priced things out to see what would happen if you just simply cancelled your existing tickets and rebooked? Yes you would lose the companion cert, but your ticket value would become an instant credit and you could use it to rebook. At the end of the day you would be out any fare difference, the companion cert, and the taxes paid for your aunt's original ticket on the companion fare. Sometimes in situations like these it's just easier to accept these losses and rebook properly to keep things simple.

Is it possible to keep my flight and just cancel her connection to me? I keep my original ticket but lose the companion aspect of it.

Oh yes, most definitely. You can call in and ask to cancel your aunt's portion. Any taxes paid for her ticket would be forfeited, but your ticket should be fine as is. I was under the impression you were wanting to accompany her to CAE, so that's why i had suggested a total rebooking.

If you want to fly your ticket as-is, then just cancel her portion, and have her rebook a new multi-city reservation.

Sorry for the confusion. No I will be keeping my part of the reservation as is. Thanks for the information!!

just to be safe, I'd wait until after flying the outbound to cancel her off the return companion itinerary

right. No reason to cancel her eastbound portion. You’ll save money by keeping it.

Question Companion certificate impact from skipping return

Is there any realistic risk from skipping a return flight for a round-trip booked with a companion ticket?

I have some companion tickets that rolled over from covid years, and I am not going to be able to use them before they expire. I only have one way flights planned this year.

Since companion tickets only work on round trip flights, I am thinking of booking a round trip and not showing up for the return flight. (Both passengers fly the first flight, both passengers skip the second flight). It would be cheaper than two one way flights for the flights we need.

I'm not wanting any money back from the missed flight or anything, I just don't want any consequences against my delta status, etc.

They won’t care but you might pay more for the one return (plus tax for the companion) than the 2 one ways.

Companion Cancellation On A Free Companion Ticket

What Happens if one of the passengers traveling as a free companion must cancel due to Covid? Will the other passenger be able to proceed with the trip or will re ticketing or some type of modification be required in the reservation?

Original passenger yes. Companion should scan original passenger boarding pass at the gate but use companion boarding pass and ID at TSA. .

Are you really suggesting flying on someone else's boarding pass?

Been doing this for years with my 5 kids. We never know who is going to end up traveling at the last minute. No one cares for domestic flights. And my kids and teens have no ID anyways. Never been a problem over 10+ years. Don’t ask. Don’t tell.

Delta Amex companion ticket - what happens if primary pax doesn’t take return flt?

I booked a ticket w/ a friend using Delta plat Amex companion voucher. I’m the primary on the itin.

I now need to travel for work to another location. Will my companion have any trouble if I don’t take that flight?

I assume I should not call to cancel the return flight, but should I check in or not check in? Will I need to book the other flight on a non-Delta airline?

I don’t want to mess up my friend’s travel. I could possibly take the original flight and leave from there to my second destination, but it would require traveling literally all day and arriving after midnight to my final destination.

thanks in advance for any advice.

the companion *CANNOT* travel without the primary passenger … even if you check in, DL can (and likely will) refuse to allow the other passenger to board
or the GA may escort them off after the final passenger count doesn’t match — TWA, 1986
