DL 1770 could be simply weather. NYC has had terrible weather. I've heard that there have been some teething issues with the A220. There was an A220 from SJC-SLC that diverted to SMF last month.

Well, one anecdote from me: Was scheduled for my one and only A220 flight back a few months ago (fairly early in its career at Delta) out of BOS. Taxi out, turn on to the runway, a warning light comes on, and back to the terminal we go. The pilot had to communicate with ATL to troubleshoot it. Either they couldn't figure it out, or they couldn't fix it, so the flight was delayed until an A321 became available to sub in for it.

All new jets have teething issues, so I would not be surprised if dispatch reliability is below what it would be for a more mature airframe. Delta must not be too disappointed with the reliability given that they slightly topped up the order at the Paris Air Show. I haven't read any reports or indication that dispatch reliability is below target from the airlines that operate them.

8116 has been delivered:

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N116DU

This means that slightly less than halfway through the year, exactly half of the 24 220s that Airbus is scheduled to deliver to DL this year have actually been delivered. Airbus is right on schedule.

Mods -- given the number of A220s coming online, can we split the thread so there is one dedicated to reviews and one dedicated to new planes entering service?

Reviews seem to be getting lost in the reports of new deliveries

Splitting the thread seems messy to me, it's hard to enforce and the threads would end up entangled. I think if LoganFlyer would be willing to update the wiki without creating a new post every time, perhaps just posting about milestone deliveries, that would work well.

This is where I wish FT would allow us to create polls. My motivation for posting deliveries & entries into service is two-fold:
  1. It's worked well in other threads, such as:
    Official Delta B737-700/800/900 Mods Thread
The Official Delta A319/A320/A321 Cabin Mods Thread
  2. Only updating the Wiki doesn't trigger notices to anyone who subscribes to the thread in order to keep track of said deliveries--they'd have to keep coming back and checking manually for any updates.
That said, if the consensus and/or moderator decision is to only post milestones and otherwise just update the Wiki, I'm happy to do that. Let the discussion begin!

A220s are coming to Atlanta starting march of next year. It will fly ATL to SLC. I found this on airline geeks, and confirmed it on Deltas website by searching for an April flight.

But.. but.. why? Is that every day? Or just a re-positioning flight?

I fail to see what the hype is over this plane. Other than the larger screens in First and the larger forward lav, there is nothing special about this plane. First class definitely isnt all that comfortable especially in the bulkhead row.

Regularly scheduled along with SLC-JFK. Both of these hub-to-hub routes seem odd from a capacity perspective. Maybe helpful for positioning of equipment purposes.

I am happy to split the thread or keep it together - but its not clear to me there is a consensus on this. Can folks weigh in?

Well, the real win is if you're an economy flyer. The A220 is downright luxurious in Economy compared to some alternatives (e.g., a 737). 3x2 seating, wide seats, not terrible pitch.

If you're in First, I agree, it is less of an upgrade. But it is still much nicer than the in-class alternative (generally a 717) - higher ceilings, actual IFE (I don't use this much, but I know it matters for some), and so on.

It looks to be a round-trip route, not just a positioning flight. Based on the time I'd speculate that it's oriented towards travelers going to/from ATL that need to connect via SLC. It appears to be an added frequency, and while the times seem to be okay to make connections at SLC, the times don't really make sense to connect to much at ATL.

Interesting. I guess it sort of makes sense (especially the Atlanta 6 AM flight) - give a hub-to-hub frequency when they couldn't fill a higher gauge plane with a good enough yield.

Still, it's funny that the longest route they're putting an A220 on is not really long and thin.. ATL-SLC could support 3+ fully loaded A380s daily....
