Because it won't be needed with higher vouchers or?

Gate agents can more easily increase the voucher amount to compensate for the hotel cost. $700 voucher plus $89 hotel voucher vs $789 travel voucher--the $789 travel voucher would probably be preferred.

I'm fine with that. Will happily take higher travel vouchers.

who runs the marketing dept at DL? If they increased it for good PR, they should have have been so cheap. Add another $50 to the $9950 and make it $10,000. An extra $50 could have generated many times more publicity that $9950. Just saying.

I think $9950 is more eye-catching and distinctive. It stimulates minor discussion ("why would they choose that amount?"), also good for Delta.

IDB must be paid in money, not vouchers, unless you voluntarily accept a voucher instead. DOT rules.

Preferred by Delta but most certainly not preferred by the passenger. Who wants to pay for a hotel themselves for $89 in exchange for 89 Delta dollars?

I'm spoiled on the east coast then, I regularly see $2,500 - $3,000 from NYC area or even DC area

I recently Snagged JFK-CDG-BUD-AMS-JFK for $2,800 Delta One (Z fare)

The surprising thing is that Delta was able to beat UA to the announcement - another sign that UA just doesn't have their act together.
This.

I'm not sure. Delta won't accept cash exceeding $10,000 as a form of payment. This limit could be relevant to why Delta won't issue a $10,000 voucher or gift card in one transaction.

I've always wondered why someone doesn't sit around at a hub...or outstation for that matter, with a laptop and buy a refundable ticket...and go for the gold flight after flight.

I've wondered if employees have done this with their friends. They can tell them which flights are the best.

Remember the guy who rolled over refundable F tickets in order to stay at an F lounge?

it always amazed me that people still pay cash for big ticket items. I was browsing in the showroom while waiting for my car to be service a couple of weeks ago. My favorite salesman greeted me and told me he was closing on a new car. It was taking a long time because the customer wanted to pay the entire car, $82,000 plus tax and all the fees in cash... all in $100 bills. The manager had to get approval from the dealership management and get the customer to sign a bunch of forms for paying with such a large amount of cash. They also had to call in an armed security guy to watch over the cash. Before you get excited and say the guy must have been a drug dealer or something. No... he was just a Chinese father(the real kind, not Chinese-American) who was buying the car for his son attending UCLA.

(and all I got when I was in college was a beat-up Oldsmobile with mismatching big chrome bumpers )

They may want to avoid onerous reporting requirements for transfers of "funds" greater than $10,000.
