Thanks Forgot to add that Atlanta was a zoo, took over an hour for the bags to unload (and of course priority last) and then 30 min in line for agent and new boarding pass and voucher. Did get miles for bags

Still worth sending in a complaint that you were forced to stay overnight in ATL and arrived 14hrs later than your original schedule. Probably will get some miles as good-will especially since you were flying in D1.

They could fly equipment that could make it, ie A350 (or possibly A339). Hot temps during summer are a normal condition. This isnt thunderstorm that DL has no way of knowing where exactly it will be. They know it's going to get hot, and unlike storm clouds which you cant predict exact location, hot temps are going effect the whole area.

DL may argue over EC261, but I bet court would find they choose to fly equipment that they knew barely could cover in ideal conditions.

There are planes that could handle these conditions. So it is at least in part an operations-related problem.

Much more speculative, but we don't know if they were carrying any cargo that could have been offloaded to prevent a stop, but they chose to keep it on for $ reasons.

I think there's quite a case to be made here that it isn't totally a weather phenomenon.

Point taken that this was unusual, but it also shows it was well-predicted in advance.

I think we are splitting hairs here. I also don't think DL or another airline has some malicious intent when these things happen. I suppose what I'm saying is that we all need to apply a bit of common sense that stiff happens and you need to roll with it rather than expecting compensation for every little thing. Not saying that that is what OP is looking for, but I wouldn't pursue this because it falls, broadly, into the act of God category for me.

No wifi or IFE on a paid D1 fare from ATL-GRU. Flight attendant gave me 5K miles. This is not good enough right? What realistically should I be requesting?

Equipment swaps on two flights when you have hours-long delays to speak to reservations agents seems far worse than a fuel-stop on one flight. Not to mention the possibility of having to significantly mess with the crew schedule (if the scheduled crew can't operate the "new" aircraft).

I never said there was malicious intent. I think common sense says the result was neither 100% weather nor 100% operational choices, but somewhere in-between.

It's certainly not the same as a storm or an airport shut-down. So lumping it in with those types of weather events isn't quite right.

When compensation is the question, these kind of details matter.

I disagree that you should get anything. I believe that wifi is "nice" but it is not included in your teriff. That is like asking for miles as your favorite Scotch is gone.

No IFE on a 9+ hour flight isn’t worth some compensation?

A little but not much. IMO It was just about worth the effort to complain about SYD-LAX.

what did we do before Wifi? Oh I remember, we read a book I would be more upset if they were out of Woodford. Can I ask for compensation?
