luggage compensation
Well, count me In for submitting a compensation claim. My bag missed connections in Atlanta, on my way to Tortola.
Actually been delayed two days and I have no confidence it will be here today. I'm going shopping again today and I will raise holy heck with Delta if they don't reimburse me for everything. I'm not used to connecting since I just moved, and foolishly checked bag. Never again. The funny thing is what I miss the most are my books. Guess I will be able to easily stock up on my location specific t-shirts and dive gear :-) |

Please update us with the outcome of this. I hate stories like this as I always check bags and the worst I have had was the more than 20 minutes from arrival at gate to baggage claim.
Challenge is I need a hard copy of the DL form. I didn't notice the bag went missing until I arrived in EIS, and that last leg was Cape Air (same tix). So I have a Cape Air claim number..but I want to submit under Delta (since the delay was actually in ATL) Since you can't buy a decent Tshirt in Tortola for less than $40, and $60 for a decent shirt....my claim is going to be rather spendy. And I want to make sure I use my status to get full reimbursement. |

Only trouble I could see is that you (rightfully) have a Cape Air file reference and IATA agreement states that the last airline carrying you is responsible for handling the claim (Irrespective of whose fault it was). According to the Montreal Convention Cape Air would have to reimburse you but there is little recourse if they don't as there is no EU passenger rights or DOT complaint you can go with. Unless you can show Delta that Cape Air is refusing to reimburse you or not responding, I don't think they would consider your claim for payment. If you paid with a Chase Sapphire Preferred/Reserve: these cards include delayed baggage coverage for incidentals. Unfortunately Amex cards do not have such a benefit. Hope things work out and, most importantly, you get your bag back intact. |
15,000 miles for an aisle armrest that didn’t stay up in D1 today, LHR-ATL. I didn’t ask for it. The purser saw me trying to get it raised and tried himself but wasn’t able to. He stopped back and told me he had issued the miles and they were posted when I got to ATL.
He also stopped by my seat just before takeoff to let me know I was the mileage winner on the flight with my 2.4 M lifetime miles. We talked a bit about missing the NW Asia flights. He had started his career with PanAm. |
Didn't know this thread existed but I've ran into a string of things that got to me that lead to me complain or randomly get miles. When one gets overnighted, oh well I always plan ahead but these things got me good.
- Flight delayed from 7PM to 9pm. No dinner served under the guise of "turbulence" that didn't exist but I had grown suspicious when I never saw catering loaded. I specifically upgraded to FC for me + 1 so we could get a meal on the plane as we were delayed heavily throughout the day and it'd be our first real meal and when we land there'd be no where to eat that late that wasn't a bag of chips. Compensation: Refunded FC upgrade price ($600 between two of us) as a one time offering as for future reference I should ask the flight lead for compensation on the flight. - Flight canceled due to storms this past weekend Compensation: Refunded outbound price to CC, Apparently getting additional compensation as additional apology due to being a DM and them not having any flights. (Didn't ask, they offered) - Checked in for flight and arrived at airport just after boarding started, attempted to load boarding pass and it wouldn't. Had to run to check-in lane and agent said "you are checked in im unsure" and they called the gate to hold the door while they figured it out because they couldn't even print a paper pass. Compensation: 15k skymiles, didn't ask for it as I had plenty of time and wasn't to worried as another plane left in a couple of hours but appreciated it. - Flight's infotainment didn't work and zero wifi Compensation: 15k skymiles |
20.000 SkyMiles for INOP IFE on the AMS-ATL flight. Seemed to be an issue for 3 legs already (including the inbound flight DL70) as there was a note from the DL70 crew on the wall near L1 in the front galley.

MIA-ATL in FC with broken IFE after 2 reset attempts. Got 2500 miles (Diamond), my companion also got 2500 miles (Skymiles member). I guess its ok for such a short flight

Gave away my C+ seat (previously upgraded).
Delta chat offered $75. Gate agent gave me $200 ==== Overbooked due to heat in PHX. Offered $400 in Amazon or AMEX gift/cash card. Rescinded last minute by GA because pilot flew jump seat. ==== delays, aircraft issues, etc normality 2000 (flight attendant) to 15k (customer service) |
8 hour flight delay CDG-JFK
Any views on what appropriate compensation is for 8 hour flight delay from CDG-JFK due to mechanical issues with incoming aircraft? (outside of EU 261 compensation which is set)?
Was offered 7,500 miles by email, seems a bit low. |
20k miles for a 5 hour delayed flight
Wife and I came home a few weeks ago (US flight) and the flight was cancelled mechanical. The found another plane 5 hours later and we arrived home just about 5 hours late (at 2am).
Wrote in and they offered 20k miles. That seems pathetic. Am I expecting too much? |
5 hour delay due to mechanical, was offered 20,000 miles. Seems way low.

For perspective, I only got 10k when my flight was cancelled during that crazy weekend last month with hundreds of flight cancellations. I went from a one-stop to a two-stop that arrived 7 hours later than my original booking. Then again, I didn't ask for it, they just gave it to me unprompted.
