Pre-covid there have historically been many other options to get from origin to destination on DL. However, I have been struggling recently with even getting from origin to destination same-day with connections that are scheduled to depart shortly before I arrive, etc. It is not that easy these days to reschedule given the significant reduction in flight offerings.

+1 for lesson learned: Can always ask for rebooking options, even on other carriers or alternate airports like EWR or LGA. Might be more difficult with checked luggage, but it can be done.

If you're eligible for special rate plans like AAA, the difference is price can be minimal.....plus most of us would prefer to stay with chains with which we have status.

Yup - had an airport Marriott who played by the rules and would not even let me enter my Bonvoy number because it was an airline rate - had to beg and plead to get free wifi code. The flip side is the airline rate comes with free breakfast, and it was a direct bill with the airline so I don't have to ask for reimbursement. |

Indeed, Marriott loves to bonvoy its members and deny benefits left and right; at least you got Marriott; last time I had a cancellation on DL they wanted to put me at a filthy Comfort Inn

I sent in an email last month asking why DL was sitting people next to each other in C+ but blocking seats in First. I got back a form email that answered none of my questions, mentioned the CDC several times, and 16,000 SM.

Best advice, simply pay yourself and ask for reimbursement. Just be reasonable, no $500 a night suite.

Longtime Delta flyer with few issues other than some lost luggage a year or so ago. Had a flight this AM (main cabin) from SLC to JFK at 8:25 AM - it was delayed to 4 PM, then 11:30 PM, and finally canceled. I'm going to miss a day of work with the rebooking. What is the appropriate amount of SkyMiles to ask for as compensation for a scenario like this? Would rather have miles than cash. Thanks in advance for guidance.

Remind me of NW days when you just email in for a broken audio plug and get 25000 miles.

The trick with getting marriott night credit for DL airline rates is to charge anything incidental to your room. You dont get points (other than the pittance for the incidentals) but you do get night credit.
