Hopefully they will have a backup plan in place to avoid this happening again. Can't believe they did not have one.

Most outage-related cancellations for tomorrow are already on the books.

It really isn't much to be honest.

The usual response... "We'll give you something that you can't redeem without putting even more of your own money with it."

Surely I was. I'm delusional at this point. 3 AM my time (had flown in to LHR from NCE previous night...grrr) and I'm delirious. Been through multiple rebookings and gate visits only to find that the flight is, again, delayed or canceled. It could be worse. But I'm on the last leg, last day, of a 6 week trip across Europe and I really wanted to be asleep in my own bed by now.

To complete my story, we were finally allowed to board at OMA around 0910, and we got off the ground at 0945, arriving at gate A7 in ATL at 1225. The OMA ground staff did a good job under trying circumstances, rolling out a cart of "Have One on Us" soft drinks and snacks, and keeping it filled. I met the captain, Mark, and he was a great guy. I got PM upgrades 5 days out, and the flights were actually quite nice once in the air.

ATL was an absolute zoo when I shot from A7 to B4 in about 10 minutes, reaching the ATL-BWI flight as it just started boarding.

Then, one of the by-products of the chaos kicked in--we didn't have the full complement of three FAs. One FA who wasn't scheduled to fly out for a while came on board and was in attendance while the flight boarded. This went on for an hour while Delta searched for a third flight attendant for us, which they ended up finding. We ended up getting away from the gate shortly after 1400 and landed at BWI at 1530, where there was an unusually large crowd of passengers.

My checked bag showed up. I'm home now. I don't fly again until August 26.

PS: I got a nice little surprise from the Big D; a $200 voucher. They didn't have to do this; I was only 2.5 hours late. However, as they say, never look a gift horse in the mouth. Thank you, Delta.

In any event, at the moment EF shows J3-J9 for the three daily MSP-AMS flights on both Tuesday and Wednesday, meaning DL is happy to sell more J seats today for travelers on both those days. IDB highly highly unlikely.

Thanks for checking. I meant to say that we are meeting on Thursday, departing on Wednesday. Departure is Wed the 9pm flight, arriving Thursday morning. We are flying from the west coast, SFO-SEA-AMS, and are supposed to arrive 10 mins before the MSP flight. Hoping all goes as planned.

if you were delayed 6 or 7 hours, then a $200 cert is a slap in the face

ty97 Aug 8, 2016 7:25 pm

Waiver extended to August 9 flights now. Rebook no later than August 12.

I guess then, consider yourself slapped. That is the compensation.

That's an interesting one to test. Here is the FlightAware record at 9:23PM EDT on Monday for tomorrow. Let's return tomorrow evening and see how the day's count has changed.

(Reminder: FlightAware shows operating carrier so Delta here means only mainline.)

Why? As long as they also reimburse people who had to pay for hotels, I don't see an issue

That will be interesting to watch. I know that a lot of crew is out of place right now and those cancellations are done. Now, if they aren't being honest about the state of the network (as evidenced by a poster a few minutes ago stating they were manually writing a manifest), that would probably change!

If I book a EU->US refundable DL-operated flight departing Wednesday morning, what is the likelihood that it will be cancelled/delayed and that I will be eligible for EU 261 compensation ?

EVA777 Aug 8, 2016 7:39 pm

Wow. The FT freeloaders are out in full force looking for the DL handout. Amazing to see what people will do for a buck.

Can't get anyone to bite on your trolling? Actually starting to feel sad for you.
