You have a lot of different things you're throwing out there all at once. What specifically did the agent say "the rules don't allow this" to?
- rules don’t allow us to SDC you unless there is regional upgrade space. This was the most common, even after asking them to consult KM it was cited that the info from the wiki was wrong and had been updated - rules don’t allow us to change flights unless you give up the upgraded and reprocess (eg need open upgrade space) - rules don’t allow us to move you from a FC flight to D1 flight even if the system is saying it’s possible In any case doesn’t matter. Flight change never happened and flight itself was very poor. Haven’t been flying delta much but this trip kind of confirms my opinion of how far downhill things have gone since precovid. |

So many things bc of many different agents. It’s not me throwing these out, it’s the agents.

Or confirmed that KM said what we think it said, but told you that KM is incorrect? |

I have been able to SDC on an award ticket--hope it works for you.
Am hoping to SDC over the weekend having cleared the RUC to F but am concerned since some are saying agents are refusing to SDC unless the OL or OY inventory is available going against the Has anyone confirmed yet if there is a rule change on this?? Thanks |

Unless I'm missing something, these two are the same issue, aren't they?

well, if it's changed it's just been in the last couple of weeks. I made such a SDC on a confirmed RUC in mid march and there was definitely no upgrade space on the new flights.

Success! The key for me was to wait until the day of travel to SDC. When you check in the day before travel, it will only give you standby options. As a matter of fact, I'm still listed on the Standby List even though I am confirmed into a seat. LOL
Now, if I can just get off the waitlist on the inbound... *Just spoke with someone about the inbound. She was awesome. She immediately saw a problem in the way something was coded. She put me on hold and came back to tell me to call back to have the ticket reissued "after" my outbound. I spoke with other agents earlier today that were either undertrained or just arrogant citing how many years he/she worked for Delta. Jesus Christ, then you should know better. I felt like I got smacked in the face with Delta employee version of DYKWIA. ** Called Delta right away after landing. This agent was pleasant and knew exactly what to do when I asked her to reissue the ticket. I really wish I got the last agent's name. Wish I can give her a JWD card. |
Data point: flight tomorrow, and the app is enforcing same fare class for SDC: offers confirmed seat on the other flight with OL but not the flights which are Z0 but have J space. Agent I reached quoted same availability; may try again in the morning.

They don't like to do it, but they will book you into J1 if you force the issue. |
I will, but not with a three-hour hold tonight :)
Ed. - well DL's last-minute schedule cuts took away all the inventory, so no dice this morning. I would remain strongly skeptical of the claim that the app supports SDC correctly. |
Does anyone have an updated data point here? This used to be a great benefit and I’ve used it several times.
i booked an early morning flight next week out of LGA and RUC cleared. I’ve been able to change to any available J seat out of EWR the same day for years (use DM benefit to utilize co-terminal) and plan to do this again. I also had no problem doing this last month to PDX (via the DM line) |
I cleared a RUC a few weeks back for MSN-DTW-SEA. Tried to SDC this to MSN-MSP-SEA and was told by the agent that the upgrades would have to re-clear.
The new flights are: J2 C2 D2 I0 Z1 W3 S3 Y3 B3 M0 H0 Q0 K0 L0 U0 T0 X0 V0 E0 and: J2 C2 D0 I0 Z0 W0 S0 Y9 B9 M0 H0 Q0 K0 L0 U0 T0 X0 V0 E0 The agent told me that if I took the change I could confirm for the first flight and not the second one (this matched Z class availability). I mentioned that I had done this before and she put me on hold for a couple minutes and then said that the policy had recently changed. I didn't press the matter further. FWIW, the app is showing options for SDC that are "confirmed" but have no first class seats available for at least one segment (and are J0). It does not appear that one can select seats in advance via the app. Given that the app is obviously being glitchy with the flights it shows, I am not going to go forward and risk my seats. |
I feel like the app SDC is getting maybe less reliable, or more chaotic, in ways that add further confusion to what the policy is supposed to be ... a few recent examples for me:
Was flying ATL-LGA and had a complimentary (not RUC) upgrade confirmed. SDC in app showed standby for first on some earlier flights. In the end, I used it and it worked as expected ... I cleared into economy after the upgrade list had already been processed on the new flight, and sat in coach and was happy to get home earlier. But the labeling was confusing. Am flying LGA-MSP-PHX today and have an RUC cleared on MSP-PHX and waitlisted on LGA-MSP. The SDC options are a wild grab bag -- I am not going to use any so I can't report whether they will work as listed, but they are mostly in economy, which seems fair enough ... but then there are a handful listed as Confirmed First, including on the JFK-PHX nonstops, which is generally odd since I'm not confirmed up front on my entire current itinerary and because changing from connecting to nonstop is not supposed to be allowed for SDC regardless. If I weren't specifically making the connection to go check out the new terminal at LGA, I would be tempted to see if the JFK-PHX change works as promised. |

By chance did you use funds from a previous unused eticket to pay? I've noticed some issues lately with such tickets. It's like system is looking at all tickets associated and getting confused..
