Wanted to provide a data point as I followed this thread for updates regularly prior to a recent trip. I was successfully able to SDC using a confirmed/reissued RUC to an earlier flight that had no upgrade space available using the we browser check in interface. I was able to see the same ability to confirm on the mobile web interface but not when trying to use the change flight feature in the app.
On the return leg I was actually able to confirm to an earlier flight and then confirm again to an even earlier (and ultimately preferred) flight that started at F0 when a single seat freed up around T-8. |
App has never worked that I am aware of. The reports are always for the web interface.

Data point: SDC not offered on check-in via browser, although 3 other flights (2 connections vs baseline 1 connection) were available. I saw a screen like post #193 but was only offered SD Standby on two 2-segment flights (which a search confirmed were sold out.)
Background: Follow up to post #207. I originally booked a FRI MAY 10 afternoon flight with regular RUC availability on both segments. I was hoping to change to SDC on morning 2-segment routing (plenty of seats 2 weeks ago) but that option sold out even before the 120-hour window. Out of curiosity, to test the success of browser check-in method, I searched other options Wed evening and while there were 8-10 alternatives, only 1 was 2-segment itinerary (added 1.5 hours travel time and got me there later) while the others (3-segment) added a minimum of 4-5 hours to total travel time. I called DM line about 1 hour before my check-in time and was assured that IF I wanted SDC, I could do that provided there was a FC seat available. Since I didn't like the available seats I decided to stay with my original flights. Just to test it, at check in I tried the "change flight" button and it showed only SD standby. In retrospect I presume Mothers' Day and graduations should have been foreseeable as making tomorrow a busy travel day. I have a feeling I would have gotten a complementary upgrade on both of my current legs based on seating at 120 hrs, but who knows. As it is, as long as the connections go fine, it should be an ok travel day. |
Much to my surprise, I was recently able to SDC from 3 segments (RUC cleared at booking) down to 2 during website checkin flow. Curiously the resulting ticket had one segment in OL and one in C

It's within policy. Only connection to nonstop isn't allowed.

Yes, I know that ;) my surprise was that the website offered it, I was expecting to have to call in.

Provide a data point: I used a GUC to confirmed delta one to HNL 8 hours before my flight departs, and tried to call again and check for possible of rerouting ( originally transfer through MSP and tried to through ATL) and all agents didn't allowed that. However, I was able to make the change using the change button during checkin on delta.com. It is weird since I was told that there are no DL1 seats for upgrades if reroute through ATL.
And here's the question. I'm currently looking for my flight back to mainland. I booked HNL-SLC-PIT and the complimentary upgrade to PS is already cleared. After that, I called the customer service line and used my RUC to upgrade to DL1(fare class OX). I'm wondering if it is possible to do the same thing again when it's time for check in. |
I was able to SDC an RUC segment on the first try. The app now says "unable to do this..." with a certificate as a possible cause. I actually had a ticket reissued in First (OX) due to a confused agent and a D1 segment, but with a little bit of work changed to another flight. It had Z available, not sure if that helped, but the new ticket is in C.

For JFK-LAX (and other domestic D1/PS routes), if I used a RUC to upgrade from MC -> PS, following the same guidelines, I should be able to SDC to any JFK-LAX that has any seat open in PS, correct? Does anyone have any data points?

Another SDC DISASTER using a RUC that had cleared and been reticketed.........literally have HUCB 6 times......all the agents still insist I pay a fare difference between original main cabin fare and new main cabin fare then "Requalify for the Upgrade"..........keep climbing DL!
Anyone got any advice? |

Anyone got any advice? ETA: Oh I see this is a SDC. The advice as to where to look in knowlege management is in this thread, as is a bunch of other advice (did you try doing it in the app?). You really need to either read the existing advice or give more information as to why that advice isn't applicapble. |

what exactly is the situation??? The fact that they want you to pay a fare difference between the old MC fare and the new one seems to imply this is a voluntary change?

In your interactions with the previous six agents did you try using the info from Utskicat in the wiki at the top of this page?
