Or they could just add a few more gates and make them common use. It would be awful to allow one airline to control an entire airport.

If more gates can’t be build (they can’t right now due to legal restrictions), WN needs to make space for DL. When the original agreement was signed to repeal the Wright Amendment, WN was only assigned 16 gates but had a sneaky back deal with UA in 2015 (while DL was still looking for gates) and suddenly has 18 gates. (90% of the airport!) The agreement also stated that airlines with gate leases at DAL must make room for any new airline entries that want to serve DAL. If DL is kicked out of love field in 3 years, there will be no other option to go anywhere other than the West Coast on anyother airline but WN from DAL. WN shouldn’t be whining that it has to share gates with DL when they were only originally given 16 out of the 20 gates.

BUT if the 3 scenarios that can play out are:
A: More gates are brought back to DAL
B: WN is allowed to keep 18 of the 20 gates fully
C: DL is allowed to use 1 gate.
AA would trow itself in front of a train before agreeing to A. So their preference is B or C.
WN would probably prefer more gates if they could also get more but clearly have no interest in C. So their preference is A then B
DL would probably prefer A then C.
But in that area AA, WN are much more politically important, so their overlap is B, so short of the court ordering DL a permanent space at DAL, I think DL is going to eventually run out of time at DAL, which is a shame.
