I get a wonderful reply from DL, and a few days later I get this HUGE gift basket filled with food and an hand written apology card. I was in shock. The gift basket alone must be worth > $100.

My friend had a similar experience-- she is PM and never complains. However after a string of long delays on three separate flights, she wrote in a complaint.

She received 15K SkyMiles plus a huge Dean & Deluca gift box. I had never heard of receiving a gift box before as compensation/thank you! What determines whether you get one of these?

10,000 miles and ORC for 5 hour delay and reroute due to mechanical issues

I have a flight from Tampa to Paris in November with a stopover in LAX (yes, weird routing, but I had plans in LA). The flight from LAX to Paris got cancelled, and I was moved to the flight one day earlier in order to maintain my upgrade. However, now the whole point of my stopover in LA is a waste, and what's worse is that I have to take an unpaid vacation day to fly to LAX a day earlier to catch the new flight. Since my whole reason of going to LA was now ruined, i asked to be moved to a flight from Tampa to ATL to CDG or some other more "sane" connection, but was denied because I'm upgrading an AF "W" fare to "O".

So, in the end, after two emails and phone call with Delta, I was offered a grand total of..... 2,000 Skymiles.

I hate to be ungrateful, but after seeing people get thousands and thousands of miles for sometimes trivial complaints, I feel like I should have gotten something a little bit more than 2,000 Skymiles for having to shift my trip one entire day sooner, having to take an unpaid day off work, flying a now-pointless ("trip in vain") connection to LAX in order to get to CDG, and then having my plans in LA completely ruined...

I guess the polite/patient/not overly complaining guy always gets screwed in the end....

I would respond to their email offering 2k miles...succinctly explaining the inconvenience.

Is complaining via @DeltaAssist pointless? or does it yield similar results?

If compensation is the desired outcome, best results seem to come from the complaint form online. DeltaAssist seems to issue comp under some circumstances, but customer care is the primary avenue through which this happens.

@Deltaassist offered me a measly 2K miles for an issue. I said, thanks, but no thanks. I ended up getting 15K.

Search for a thread with "glossary" in the title. There is one floating around here somewhere.

Edit: here.

Unusually the twitter team never replied and for the first time ever the FA addressed the issue on board offering compensation from her credit card machine. Knew this has been around for awhile but have never seen an FA use it even when it should have been. One question though, is compensation graded upon ones elite level? Or only significance of issue? And not a combination like United does?

I think status, type of issue, and class of service all play a role.

First complaint ever.

5,000 for reporting glitchy IFE audio and non-working USB power out of ATL. Included in my note that I upgraded to EC because I enjoy the access to on-demand shows - I find the IFE helps distract me from my anxiety - and was disappointed that I couldn't enjoy them because the audio wasn't working. Now I suspect I may not have actually been in EC for that leg; I can't remember. In my defense I was relying on a note I tapped out in flight while stuffed with anti-anxiety pills, at which point it was a wonder I could even spell my name correctly.

My brother has taken to complaining every time he ends up on a plane without PTVs. His rationale is that if the website said at any point the plane would have it that he's getting bad information. He usually gets either 3,500 miles or a $50 voucher.

For the recond, I don't agree with his tactics.

I got 5k for complaining about the constant line from coach waiting for the FCC bathroom, while the FA sat in the jumpseat reading a newspaper.

If you didn't accept that sad offer I would call back and speak to another rep. I was given 5,000 skymiles because a flight was delayed an hour and 20 mins.
