2012 Compensation Thread
In keeping with the http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...n-reports.html thread, I figured I'd open one for this year.
Mods - please merge if you want to wait until March 1st. Me - Received 7,500 Sky Miles after submitting a complaint regarding catering changes in Economy Comfort/Economy on TATL flights. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...ck-tatl-y.html |
SEA-ATL on a 757 last Sunday. PTVs in my row (27 ABC) and the row behind me inoperative. The passengers behind me told one of the F/As they couldn't see the safety video and she said "I'll just reset yours when we take off". Reset didn't work. Wrote an email asking if the F/As shouldn't have switched to a manual demonstration, got a form email back with 3,500 miles.
|
Can we post negative compensation? Had a recent flt where I was #1 on the UG list with one seat remaining. Seemed like a lock but GA said F boarded full. Turns out she was wrong BUT the seat went to a passenger in coach who had an F fare. Somehow they missed that, too.
Told DL to keep the SkyMiles, just give me an explanation. They explained, and took back the waterfall SM's they dumped on me. Fine by me, DL is waaayyy to generous with dishing out miles. |
7K miles for not processing SWU til I called in. I did NOT ask for miles, just the issue to be fixed.
|
59,000 Miles and "a bunch of SkyClub passes" for a J to Y IRROP rebook TPAC from NRT to MSP, that ended up with me going NRT->SEA->MSP->GRR all in Y and getting home 7 hours later.
|
My father is Gluten intolerant and with a cleared UG, he called ahead and asked for a Gluten-Free meal. At the Gate the GA apologized for not having Gluten-Free meals and issued 5 $50 vouchers for the whole family since we were all traveling together.
Side Note: 2 others were cleared into F as well and also Gluten intolerant, but my father was the only one who requested the special meal |
I booked two J award tickets for my in-laws. On their return they were delayed more than two hours leaving AMS, which resulted in missing their connection at ORD. They aren't frequent flyers, so they don't really know the rebooking drill, and the agent booked them into non-direct flights in Y, ultimately arriving over six hours after originally scheduled (and in Y).
I wrote to Delta and they responded with a form letter apologizing for the delay, and offering a $250 voucher for each of them. It seems like this is consistent with what others have received for delays, so my question for the collective wisdom is do I continue to pursue the issue of the involuntary downgrade or let it stand? |
I got 5,000 miles (without asking for them) when complaining that a SkyPriority desk agent at BOS went over to use the kiosk to check me in rather than doing it on her system. Wasn't going to complain, but then I got a survey from DL asking about my experience with the kiosk and figured I'd rather have a CSR read my message than the outsourced survey people.
|
7000 miles for MX out of BOS earlier this month that caused me to barely miss a connection in ATL. Was protected by the GA in BOS on the next flight. Arrived at destination 3hrs late.
|
$200 travel voucher for 2 combined complaints: arrival in Seattle from Narita it took 55 minutes for bags to be delivered and priority bags came off 10 minutes later not first,; plus on the flight from SEA-MSP I bought a fresh sandwich which I had to pay for and used drink coupons for a few drinks, but then my credit card was charged for the fresh sandwich PLUS another drink which they never gave me a receipt for.
Well, I thought that $200 was quite generous. :) and they will refund that $5 as well if I ever get around to sending them the Visa card details. Pretty cool. |
5000 miles for a 5 hour mechanical delay. I didn't ask for a reply to my e-mail. I just sent a note indicating that 5 out of my last 7 flights were delayed multiple hours due to mechanical issues and it was becoming frustrating. (And I didn't ask for, or receive compensation for any of those)

A phrase involving spite, nose and face comes to mind |

And you really think one person telling them that is going to make a difference?
|
7500 miles for complaints about the worst TATL FA crews I have ever had out of ATL....and maybe they also gave me the miles because I complimented them on the truly excellent FAs on the flight back 3 days later.

Did you ask for ECV? They almost always only give miles.
I still think comp was very generous, but all told, it was about 3 hours (I didn't hit the upgrade from SEA-MSP, first time miss as PM) without any water, etc. since I very literally ran to the gate and just made the flight = 1 hour before landing, the 1 hour wait, the run to the gate + wait for any service. Well, it isn't a life-threatening thing! but it was annoying, I complained, and they were generous. Delta, keeps winning my business with things like this. Not always perfect, but excellent response. :) |
Broken AVOD = 3,000 miles. Didn't ask for them or a response to the email, so it was a nice surprise.
|
My brother (FO) wrote in and complained about a CHS-ATL flight not having the PTVs turned on. He got 3,700 miles.

7,500 SM - Boarding a flight to JFK
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...l#post17977883
Per my comment in this thread, I'd emailed in separate comments regarding this incident and whether or not DM in Y get FastTrack cards (sometimes, it's been yes, sometimes not). I did not really expect miles...did not seem merited, even with the kettle boarding frenzy... |
Last week..................
$400.00 for VDB on LAX - MSP and then onto LGA. i got the non-stop LAX-JFK the next morning and was put in J, bypassing the UG list. Plus, a night at the Hilton, since LAX-MSP was the last flight out. Oh yeah, I only bid $300.00 on the OLCI kiosk, so it worked out rather well for me.

7,500 miles for broken overhead entertainment
NRT-DTW. Overhead movie was broken for over two hours. Complained on Delta.com. A month later, still no reply.
Then asked DeltaAssist about it. After a few Tweets, DA put 7,500 on my account. |

I'm based in Bangkok, so maybe it's different for non-USA address? I didn't ask for anything, just sent the complaint via online customer complaints.

I try for most companies I spend decent $$ with (sorry, no fast food surveys), to fill out the survey if asked to give positive or negative, or both, feedback, because in my business it's important for me. So every time DL asks me to, I oblige, sometimes stating "everything was ok, not bad, not great", and that's that.
However, my flight last week 1 segment was just bad (rude FA, mechanical delay, leaving a 20 minute connection from A to E in ATL), and the next segment was great (FA went above and beyond), and I wanted to point out the difference. Got an email back saying thanks for telling us, and here's 4K miles. I'm assuming it was for the mechanical delay, but I was surprised. |
7500 miles for spouse and myself for AVOD outage on an A330 for the entire flight from HNL-ATL. The GA's let us know the system was non-functional when the aircraft arrived, but didn't offer any amenity packs.

Great compensation
My DL 107 FRA-JFK on Feb 19 was cancelled when metal was diverted to DUB due to a broken transponder. I was rebooked through DTW and lost my EC exit row seat on DL 107 and placed in a coach aisle seat. I hate the aisle and can't possibly fly in a regular coach seat so I made my displeasure known to multiple GA. Finally, the ground customer service supervisor got me in the bulkead middle seat but blocked the rest of the row for me so I could sleep. This was great customer service- so I wrote Delta to praise his work. Got 9500 miles for my comments. Wrote again asking when I could expect the 40 dollar refund of the unused EC seat and got another 10K miles.
These two bonus exceeded miles flown and 100% GM bonus. Thanks Delta. |
oops, meant to hit edit.
|
40K miles in comp for an intl award ticket IRROPS leading to 25 hr delay on returning home and J to Y downgrade on domestic segments combined with 5 day baggage delay after arrival. Took a heck of a lot of wrangling - too much IMHO.

This is interesting.....
Last week wi-fi and IFE out the entire flight and on way back no PTV's as equipment change. Sent two notes to CC. My dad no status and 1st flight in years gets a email back within 25min and get 3700. I havn't received a email back yet and it it's been 3 days.......haha |

$600 to take Air Canada direct from YYZ to SFO rather than DL YYZ-DTW-SFO

I bet yours will be worth waiting for. 3,700 for IFE breakdowns seems to be about a quarter of what most GM+ report receiving.
I was planning on doing some work on the plane on the way down, which costed me about spending two hrs in my hotel room the next day. 10K miles sounds fair to me. We will see. Not going to email in again. Delta takes good care of me overall! |
My most recent comments took about 4 days to receive a reply.
|
9500 miles for an email complaining about the terrible catering in F SEA-HNL.
|
2500 miles for completing a survey about a weather divert from HDN to SLC.
Cheers |

3500 miles for aircraft swap putting me in a middle seat from a window.
Didn't mind this, my frustration was that it was a domestic flight with intl EC and after the GA processed 8 gate upgrades for 3 DMs + 5 PMs, she gave the newly available EC aisle and window seats to non-status pax without seat assignments. I mentioned to her that those should be given to elites in the back who didn't clear upgrades and wrote in to DL to ask what the protocol is, especially given that domestic EC is coming soon. |
7500 SkyMiles after I wrote an email complaining about the decorative-use-only electrical outlets at all the E gates in Atlanta a couple weeks ago.
|
Emailed Delta asking about upgrade procedures (should GAs upgrade already boarded pax or does boarding mean you forfeit your upgrade queue position?) and received a canned answer and a $50 voucher
