This was a first. Gate agent at PIT calling folks to the counter as if she were processing standbys. One at the podium she says "did you know Delta has a huge promotion going on?" She then pitches the Amex and I mean hard core. One girl was marginal on age so she asked her how old she was. Once she found out she was of age it was game on. She signed up a few folks. She never stopped blabbering about where you can go with all those bonus miles the entire time they filled out the app. Nice.

What would happen if, right as the boarding door was about to be closed, a fare were to start insisting to the flight crew that they really needed to see the GA. The crew keeps the door open, the GA comes down to the flight, and the fare says "I've rethought it - can I have one of those AMEX applications?"Originally Posted by rjp6902

I presume that GA would get stuck with a delayed flight, but would anything happen to the fare?

To peddle goods aggressively, especially by calling out.
Dear Delta,
This is extremely annoying. Please stop. I bought a ticket to take a plane ride. I did not buy a ticket so that I could be chased through ATL or SLC or DTW by people who want me to open an AmEx account. I did not buy a ticket so I could hear your FAs pitch AmEx. And I did not buy a ticket so I could hear your GAs pitch AmEx.
I bought a ticket so I could get from Point A to Point B on one of your airplanes. As a PHL based flyer, I specifically bought a Delta ticket because your employees are less annoying and more helpful than USAir's. I will even pay slightly more to fly DL because you provide me with a more pleasant flight experience.
Please don't ruin it for me.
Sincerely,
MFMeow

Recently, during an IROP when making my connection looked problematic, I called the PM line to get backed up on a later flight. During the process, the agent starts explaining to me that, if I were to sign up for the Reserve card, I would be more likely to retain my upgrades in situations like I was in.Originally Posted by MFMeow

She had not yet booked me on the backup flight but, rather, apparently felt that shilling an AMEX card was the higher priority task.

That's funny. The gold line gave me the same upgrade pitch about the DL reserve card. I think that card is worthless. I have te Amex plat card which has way more benefits

I would've blown a gasket (at least internally, on the outside I would have tried to still be polite). That seems highly inappropriate.Originally Posted by StayingHomeIsBetter

As soon as it starts I cut them off with a polite but firm "no, I'm not interested".

OMG, is she still at it? Perhaps she has bought herself a car by now with all that commission...

Car...dunno. But, think something....bigger. Can't get into specifics. But...I was floored when told what an agent in PIT (supposedly...) earned from the AMEX program.Originally Posted by Crazyhotelguy
