Recently, during an IROP when making my connection looked problematic, I called the PM line to get backed up on a later flight. During the process, the agent starts explaining to me that, if I were to sign up for the Reserve card, I would be more likely to retain my upgrades in situations like I was in.
She had not yet booked me on the backup flight but, rather, apparently felt that shilling an AMEX card was the higher priority task.
I would've blown a gasket (at least internally, on the outside I would have tried to still be polite). That seems highly inappropriate.
As soon as it starts I cut them off with a polite but firm "no, I'm not interested".
