Old thread, but Danny_DeltaeCommerce's participation here makes this thread the best and most consolidated place to ask the following question:
For 2015 level app ware, which platform is best for Delta's mobile app? By "best", I mean reliability, functionality, usability, and feature set. The reason why I ask is because I have noticed SIGNIFICANT differences between the Delta App version 1.7.2 for iPhone 4 version 4.2.6, versus the Delta App version 2.61 for Android phone version 2.3. Between these two, I have found the Android version of the Delta App to have far more features, with a much better interface, than the iPhone version of the Delta App. On the other hand, the iphone version was much more reliable and less likely to hang or crash, which has been a regular occurrence with the Android app. I plan on buying a new phone and/or tablet, but haven't decided which kind to get yet. One of the considerations to this decision is how well the current version of Delta's mobile app performs with each platform. - Android phablet? (eg Samsung Note 4) - IOS phablet? (eg iPhone 6 Plus) - Windows tablet (eg Surface Pro 3) - IOS tablet (eg iPad Air 2) - Android Tablet (eg Samsung Galaxy Tab x) Any input on the current state of the art in Delta Apps would be mightily appreciated. The latest version of the DL App for Android is V3, which is a significant change from V2. If your phone will run it, you should install it and use the current functionality. I don't know the current version level of the IOS version of the DL App but think that you're probably in the same boat (rather than the same plane) with an iPhone 4 in today's world. Sort of like using a Kodak Brownie to take action pictures. I've not made a recommendation since the recommendations will be based on who has a prejudice for whichever platform they like. Most people don't use both on comparable devices. i.e I don't know anyone who has an iPhone and an Android phone and could give a repot based on all of the application functionality. |
If you think that is bad, I used a 1989 Motorola 3 watt bag phone with a full size handset, coil cord, separate transceiver, and rubber ducky antenna all the way up until 2007. I changed only because the FCC finally permitted the cellphone providers to shut down the analog service that enabled my (very clear and reliable) 3 watt phone to work.
The smart phones I'm now using are circa 2011... not at all old in my opinion, but I see your point about how ancient they are under various corollaries of Moore's law. I was hoping that some folks here who recently changed from Android to iPhone, or vice versa, and thus have recent experience with both platforms... or perhaps the wife has an iPhone and the husband uses an Android, and both use the Delta App... would be able to chime in and confirm whether Delta's App runs better or is more feature friendly on one platform over another. My findings are that I prefer the App on Android, when it works. The problem is that at least my version of Android can't even make a phone call reliably, and it is the latest and most up to date version available for my Samsung phone, which only lasts about an hour before dying. The iPhone, on the other hand, can last a day or two, and never hangs up. But the Delta App on my iPhone doesn't have near the functionality and features as it has on the Android. It seems reasonable to expect that a lot has changed in 4 years, so before plunking down the cash for a new device, I'm trying to learn if there are still differences within the Delta App between the mobile platforms. |
You probably don't have latest iPhone app or IOS version to support it.
You definitely don't have the latest Android app. Go to your cell phone carrier store and try out the phones there. You can probably install the app and try it. |

At this point, the two app versions are at or very close to feature parity within the app itself. However, I strongly prefer the iOS version because of one feature: Passbook. On iOS, Passbook lets you save your boarding pass from Fly Delta to an OS-level app which can show it on the lockscreen (slide to view without having to unlock) based on time & location, even if you don't have any data coverage. This is such a huge improvement in ease of use that I have to call iOS the clear winner for the way I use the app. That said, if there are other apps you use that are better on Android or you prefer the higher level of customization and greater breadth of phone options that Android allows for, the FD app on Android works just fine. For all I know, you're a diehard paper boarding pass user (even without the HOOU coupons) and therefore don't care about mobile boarding passes...but you really like Androminion. |

I either print at home on reversed scrap, or get a thermal print when I check bags. I always check bags, and they generally always print passes without asking. The younger ones ask though. Having been educated more recently, they are more in tune with the three R's (reduce, reuse, recycle). It is interesting to hear that both the IOS and Android versions of the Delta app have now reached parity in features. That isn't the case on 2011 era smartphones, but I'm glad to know it is the case today. I'd be delighted to read or hear of other differences, if anyone else has some to share. I'm not too keen on logging into my Delta account on a demonstrator phone at the cellular retail store, because I don't know how to thoroughly extinguish my logon info from that phone before I leave the store. I fear (from ignorance most likely) that clearing my tracks is not as straightforward as one might be led to believe. |
The check-in feature that shares to Facebook is missing the destination city in the wall post.

Wait, someone actually uses that instead of cursing at it everytime it pops up after you land?
I usually just mash the button to clear all notifications to get rid of that, the rental car message, and whatever Kayak has sent me all at once. (Yes, I know I can probably control the latter two, but I'm too lazy to go figure it out.) |

I have a Samasung Galaxy S5 with Android 5.0. Also, I have the Delta App version 3.7 installed on the SD card. The issue I am having is booking new flights on the app and purchasing trip extras or upgrading on the app after booking a flight through a browser.
When booking flights, I enter an airport code or date and the app clears/resets. Meaning, the airport code or date looks like it submitted but a split second after submission the page clears/resets. I have been unable to book flights through the Android app in months. Since the app wont let me book flights I book them through the browser. The app then populates my flight itinerary. When trying to upgrade or purchase trip extras, the app will not let me do any of these features. I have uninstalled and installed the app on both the device and SD card. The app still does not function properly. When installed, I have cleared data and still does not work. Anyone have ideas, so I can book flights on the Delta app again? |
Sorry to bring up an older thread but, just updated to 3.10 and the app hangs at least on my Moto X (2014) Running Android 6.0 Marshmallow when trying to do anything in the My Trips section.

LG G3, Android 5.0.1, no problems noticed so far with FlyDelta 3.10.

Works on my Note 4 with 6.0. However it still has my Redeye SFO-MSP Tuesday Morning and won't disappear on a refreshing. My iPhone 6 Plus disappeared right away.
