I'm having the same problem. I'm using an HTC Evo.

Also, noticed that when you kill the app using a task killer (currently using Advanced Task Manager) that when you reopen the app it doesnt automatically resign you in.

I'm not sure what I did to save my phone number, I think I went back to my email address, swipped or flicked around some... it finally saved.... but why would the app need my email and phone number when the website has it?

So, this app just lets me look at my current itineraries? It can't even display the correct seat assignments for a direct flight with a change of AC?
I can't store my phone number, thought I'm not sure why it needs it since it is already in my profile.

Awesome! I was wondering when it would be here. Given that Android is rapidly stealing market share from the iPhone, it didn't make sense that the dainty iPhone had an app while the Android did not.

It's their first version. Android apps are easily auto-updated, so I'm sure they'll be continually releasing improvements. Better to have a basic working version out there that gradually improves than having to wait a couple more months to see anything at all.

Android 2.2 and above is very efficient at putting idle apps "to sleep", rendering task killers more harmful than beneficial. Unless you are using an older version of the OS, I suggest uninstalling the task killer and letting Android handle the optimization on its own. Otherwise, you're likely killing your battery and causing more problems, not improving things as you'd expect.

I second this. Note sure about a "contest", but Delta would be *immensely* wise to offer a mileage or even MQM bonus for intalling and/or booking using the app. It is a very sticky platform and one they should encourage customers to become addicted to.

yeah it's not bad. I agree with some of the comments regarding the actual use of this app. I would love to be able to change seats with this. I'm sure new improvements will come out as they progress with this app.

Finally!

Things I would like:

1. Be able to see the gate information (Kayak does this well)
2. Be able to see the upgrade list
3. Be able to mark parking via GPS (not picture or description)
4. Be able to pay for parking and scan out of the parking lot
5. Be able to purchase tickets
6. Be able to change seats (already requested)
7. Be able to text FA with my drink order while in flight @:-)

Until/unless they get this feature built in, there are a ton of free GPS-based parking apps, such as Parkdroid and Dude Where's My Car.

Yes, all of those would be useful - #4 would take a lot of external integration. I could live without that.

Glad to hear that you all are enjoying the Android version of the application. And please keep feedback coming, we want to grow all of our applications to be an extremely useful tool.

Right now we have applications on three platforms (iOS, Blackberry, and Android). All three are being developed separately and have slightly different functionality. We are working to get all three to have the same features as well as continually working on expanding on the features.

One such item is rebooking during Irregular Operations. This is currently available on the iOS version of the application and is not yet available on Blackberry and Android version of the application. This item is also in process on Blackberry and Android and we are working to get them out as soon as possible.

For some of the items brought up:
You can do this in the Applications today. If your flight is within one day, when you are viewing either the list of trips or the detail of a segment you can tap on the flight number and it will take you to the flight status page for that flight. This will contain terminal and gate information.

When you are in the parking reminder you can save a map location of where you are by checking the "Save This Location" check box (the little locate me box will turn green). The "Share Reminder" will also contain a link to google maps for the location.

For right now, if you tap on any city name (be it in schedules, flight status or when viewing any trips) you will get a google map view of where the airport is as well as the weather. We certainly want to get in detailed airport maps so you can find your way around inside the airport.

For notification on gate changes and other such messages, those are currently on iOS and Blackberry versions of the application. This should be out for Android soon.

These are the next big items that we are working on getting to all three devices.

Btw everyone... for many features requested but not yet implemented, simply browsing to Delta's mobile web page (via smartphone browser, not app) can handle most in the meantime.

That's the killer feature as far as I'm concerned. When you first see that your flight has been kicked into IRROPS, you can hope on the app and rebook before all of the other suckas. That is, until all the other suckas are also using Android. However, by then you'll be very adept at using it, so you'll still beat 'em!

Thank you for the information. I like it even more now that I know all the features.

Another nice to have would be to associate and show my hotel and car reservations associated with the flight. Kayak allows this by having me forward my hotel & car reservation confirmation email to them.

Its a trade-off, we provide you data on our travel stats and we get the features in return.

If Delta app can do the same then I can remove the kayak app from my phone.

BTW, on my last trip, I was standing at the gate when I received an email notification from Kayak about gate change. It was few minutes after that the GA made the announcement. Thats a great alert system!

Can you explain why the app requires the following seemingly unnecessary permissions?

-Read phone state and identity
-Fine (GPS) location, coarse (network-based) location

There seems to be no functionality that would require either of these bits of personal information.

As far as "Read phone state and identity", I don't think that there is anything directly accessing the phone state and it can likely be removed. We will look into why it is there.

For "Fine (GPS) location, coarse (network-based) location" this is for the parking reminder. If you select the checkbox for "Save this location" the fine or coarse location will be used based on what the OS says to use.

Thanks for the info; missed that parking feature in my first run through. That will come in handy.

Android App hasn't worked for me for several days. Is it working for anyone else?

I've been using it fairly often - working fine via HTC Incredible (soon to be ThunderBolt!) running Android 2.2. If you post your phone model, Android version, and app version, it might help Delta diagnose the issue, as sometimes apps will work with some combinations but not others.

What sort of issues have you been having? And what sort of device / OS combination are you using? If you could provide these details we can look at seeing if we can resolve the issue you are having.

Thanks for the concern. I just uninstalled the app and then reinstalled it on my Samsung Fascinate, Android 2.1.

I was getting a force close every time I tried to log-in, but after reinstalling the app, it is working.

App issue
 

I too uninstalled it and then reinstalled it. I was having a problem where it would force close as it tried to auto login. All is much better but it still shows boarding passes for flights that went IRROP almost a week ago. Parking reminder picture is too small to really be effective/ useful (I know that you can zoom in but it does not take advantage of the screen size).

Overall, a nice start and I look forward to the next upgrade. :)
