OK. So here is my gripe list with the Android app:

* Why does it always show me someone else's itinerary before showing me mine? The last time that I checked-in thru the Android app, it first showed me an itinerary BOS-MUC - which wasn't my routing at all - for someone with a different name than me. Eventually it will bring up a screen with my actual itinerary information. This happens while it is still refreshing, so I can't actually do anything with the bad itin when I see it. I don't get control back until the screen is finished refreshing and is showing me the correct itin.

It's a very weird issue. It kind of gives me the creeps.

* Android app check-in doesn't work at all with SDC. It will continue to show you your original itin even after you've SDCed to a different flight. I've never gotten to see my new flight info after an SDC to be able to do the mobile check-in.

All in all, the android app is a great addition and checking-in and generating and viewing eBoarding passes is better with the app, than with using the mobile site or the www site.

Has anyone notice how slow the App is with logging in and everything? Just wondering if the iPhone app does the same thing.

gplates Apr 9, 2011 1:02 am

I have another strange issue with the android app:

I am booked on a DL ticket to ATL but using Air France flight numbers.
I am booked on AF1135 and AF682 but the app shows that as DL1135 and DL682 for some reason.

Same thing happened in February, i flew on an award ticket (DL) on SU to Moscow, it showed DL114 instead of SU114.

Can you confirm that the same issue doesn't also appear on the website? Many data feeds are common between the site and the app, so I'm curious if your issue is also present on the website, not directly attributable to the app.

gplates Apr 10, 2011 12:07 am

No it shows correct as AF682 on the website and on the ticket, its just the Android app.

Last week I encountered 2 problems with the same itinerary / boarding pass(es).

1st, I checked in for my flights on the Android (I have a T-Mobile G2X) application, and when I went to the Boarding pass page, it was missing the actual barcode. Where the barcode should have been, there was a square and text saying "Barcode". Obviously I couldn't present that to TSA/Gate.

2nd, I decided to instead have the boarding pass e-mailed to my mobile device. Upon opening up the link, I had only XML, and not the imaged boarding pass I was hoping for.

I full on acknowledge that this could be my phone that is causing the problem, but I am curious if this has happened in the past to anyone else and wonder if I am simply overlooking something. I never had the problem with the mobile boarding pass (e-mailed) on my previous Android device.

A new version of the application is now available in the Android market. The latest release is 1.4.1. We released 1.4 on Friday and over the weekend discovered a bug that would cause a force close for certain customers and released a fix for that on Monday (1.4.1 version).

The new release has the following updates

The latest version of the Delta app now helps you deal with canceled or misconnected flights.
  • see if you've been automatically rebooked.
  • pick another flight from a list of suggested itineraries.
  • search for alternates, including flights into nearby airports.
  • share your new flight details via email.
  • receive push notifications for flight and gate changes (2.2 and higher only).
  • force close bug fixes when viewing itineraries
  • Minor bugs were also fixed in this release.

The reason notifications are only for 2.2 and higher devices is that Google's version of push is available in 2.2 and higher versions of the OS. You can turn this on or off under the settings that are accessed on the home screen.

The reason we went from 1.0.1 to 1.4 is to keep the version numbers in line with the iPhone version of the application.

And in the next release, look for:
  • viewing seat maps and changing your seat
  • check your status on the upgrade standby list (it will have more information on it than what you see on delta.com :))

Yes seat maps and upgrade list would be the MAIN func of a mobile app... like the CO one.

Tried it out -- awesome! Thank you!

Don't spend any more time on the iPhone app... focus on the Android one... the ladies have enough gimmicky stuff to play with on their iPhones already ;)

18sas Jun 7, 2011 1:52 pm

Thanks Danny. Can't wait to try it out. I haven't been able to check-in on the android for a couple of weeks now. Hopefully the new version will fix it.

gnd Jun 8, 2011 9:29 am

Tried the app this trip and it was a big help. I was at BWI several hours early for my flight back to ALT. I knew that I could not switch to an earlier flight without being charged more, so I was content to just sit around and relax. As I was getting ready to go through security, I pulled up my boarding pass through Android and saw that my flight would(1724) be late, BUT that I could get an earlier flight at know extra cost. I rushed to the Delta ticketing area and talked to the lady there. She said that my flight was on time, but after I showed here the screen of the app, she poked around and said oh yeah there is a half an hour delay ( later saw that the flight left an HOUR and a half late). She changed my ticket to the earlier flight(1824) and off I went.

thank you!

mtkeller Jun 30, 2011 11:40 am

Since I suspect Danny subscribes to this thread, I'm going to make a bug report here. Partner itineraries booked on DL stock (such as award tickets) are showing up with DL as the flight number prefix instead of the actual carrier. For instance, I'm booked on KE908 and KL125, which show up as DL908 and DL125 in the Android app. It shows up properly on DL.dumb (although in the ticketing process the flight numbers got the wrong carrier prefix but were footnoted "Operated by Korean Air Lines" or something like that as you'd see on a DL Connection flight).

gplates Jun 30, 2011 1:18 pm

I encountered the same problem, booked award ticket on SU164 and SU113 and the app shows DL164 and DL163.
Happened in February and for a flight next month.

PepeBorja Jun 30, 2011 1:58 pm

I like the APP.

One suggestion.

Add a screen displaying my SkyMiles Barcode so that I can use it at the Kiosk Scanners. Very handy to just scan the barcode right on the phone.

I currently use a different Android app that keeps all of my loyalty cards (CVS, Best Buy, Vitamin Shoppe, Delta, etc) and use them at checkouts.
The APP accepts DELTA's barcode and use it at the kiosk.

Thanks for the APP.

Version 1.5 is now available in the market. The updates fro this include:
  • Ability to select and change seats
  • Ability to view the full Upgrade Standby List on flights you have requested an upgrade on or are flying standby on.

There have been a few other modest tweaks in response to feedback (mostly on the user interface front). And the other feedback that has been provided in this thread is also being looked at.

Excellent! I love this app and also love how it keeps getting better and better. Good work, DL! ^

One quirk: when I looked at my itinerary for the AF codeshare I flew a couple weeks ago, I noticed that it told me my seat was 36F, business class. I was flying on a coach award ticket, so I was clearly neither business class nor upgrade eligible as a Silver. It did get my hopes up, though -- bummer.

And one suggestion: the ability to look at itineraries off-line. I travel international, and it would be handy to be able to look at my itinerary when I don't have access to 3G networks or wifi.

Thanks!^

I just downloaded the updated app and gave the seat-changing feature a try for an upcoming trip. It feels very polished. I would have settled for just having this function work on delta.com from mobile browsers, but this is definitely better.

My only trip in the next few days is on a CRJ so I can't test out the upgrade list feature yet - looking forward to seeing it in action though!

timetosave Jul 19, 2011 9:19 pm

Some more minor feedback. The "Contact" section only contains toll-free numbers which you can't call internationally. What about using the user's location to provide the phone numbers for Delta in the same country the user is in.

LarryJ Jul 19, 2011 10:36 pm

Very nice update. Thank you!

One feature request...

When I land at the hub I turn on my phone to find out three things.

1. The gate that we're taxiing to

2. The status of my connecting flight (delays, etc.)

3. The departure gate of my connecting flight

It would be nice if the app recognized that you're mid-trip and could provide that information in a single place with a single user action.

mtkeller Jul 20, 2011 3:39 am

Nice progress. Anyone tried changing seats yet? I just went in and looked at the map but am happy with my assignments, so no changes made. Just wondering if it's more reliable than DL.dumb. I'm also a bit worried about accuracy. DL9 on 27 October, for instance, shows an almost empty Y cabin on DL.dumb. However, the Android app shows rows 31-35 being completely full, despite none of the CDE seats in those rows showing occupied on DL.dumb or EF

Also, still no fix to showing other airline flights with a DL prefix (MH2 showing up as DL2, KE908 showing up as DL908, etc.)

yes, I did, as did firstglobal a few posts ago. I became FO since I booked my next flight, so I just switched to an exit row for the red-eye. Works well! ^

Have you confirmed on DL.dumb that you're in the new seat? Given the inaccuracies I saw in the Android seat map, I'm curious if it's working properly.

There should be the ability for offline usage, I'll circle back with the team and make sure that we've got that working correctly.

Definitely something to look at. I know that there is a strong desire to make that sort of information contextual to your current trip as well as making Sky Club information available and just as contextual.

As with timetosave's suggestion about the contact numbers, this would definitely be something that we're looking at making more relavant and useful.

Yes, it works! Looks the same on .bomb as on the Droid seat map and all the changes are there. For what it's worth, all four legs of my flight are 757s.

Here's what I posted a few posts back, trimming down to the relevant bits:

For additional data points, DL400 (ATL-MSP) on 30 October is very weird. App shows all of row 17 occupied, web shows only 17C occupied. App shows 13E unoccupied, while web shows it as occupied. This is not restricted to non-preferred seats, as 678C all show occupied in the app, while only 6C is occupied on the web. For absolutely crazy, look at DL40 on 30 October. App shows all but eight seats in rows 31-46 as occupied, when in fact only eight of them are actually occupied! This appears to be a pretty serious bug that needs to be fixed ASAP.

The other one I note has perhaps less impact, but it should be really easy to fix!

What version of the OS does that device run? I tried doing some quick research and didn't see which particular version is installed. The current application supports 2.1 and higher.

And how would you normally go about installing applications on this device? The quick research I did said that while the Android Marketplace isn't installed on this device, you could go the route of installing the Amazon Marketplace and get applications from there. Right now we are not in the Amazon Marketplace but it is something that we are looking at.

@Danny_DeltaeCommerce 1st off again thank you for your time!

I found a site that had the manual download of the:

com.delta.mobile.android_v1.5.apk

EDIT: The little unit runs an ARMv6 cpu with (Kernel version 2.6.27 PDUI@ANDROID)

I can not use the Android Marketplace as this is not a "phone" but an e-Reader. They will be millions more of these but most will have the updated OS and ARMv7 CPU. But, if you can make it work some way with OS 1.5 I sure would be a happy flyer!

Thanks for the post either way. "Keep Climbing" Delta - I love my airline!

mnbp Jul 21, 2011 5:19 am

Just downloaded the 1.5 version of the Delta app to my Android phone last night. Last night, from the "Hi, mnbp" initial screen, I clicked on "Check in AAA to BBB". The link showed my flight but did not offer an option to check in for the flight. However, when I brought up my itinerary from "View my trips" screen, I was able to check in. Now that I am checked in, I can't test this again to see if I missed something originally.

trek87 Jul 21, 2011 2:17 pm

I'm having about a 50% success rate with viewing the seatmaps after upgrading to the newest version this morning. Also, a full seatmap key isn't visible.

Danny_DeltaeCommerce Jul 21, 2011 3:05 pm

We just released version 1.5.1 to address the seat map issue mtkeller brought to our attention. Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention.

Using the web browser that is on the device you can go to Amazon market and load applications that way. At this point we aren't in the Amazon market, but we are looking into it.

But the biggest problem is that the e-reader is using version 1.5 and the application was written to support version 2.1 and higher.

Thanks for resolving the problem so quickly, Danny! I can confirm that the seat maps for the flights I reported are showing up just fine now. If you keep up this good work, FT will be nominating you for rapid promotion to be in charge of getting IT issues at DL fixed. :D

Thanks for the tip on the seat key - that worked. But I'm still seeing "Sorry, the seat map for this flight is currently not available" frequently (I've also been seeing this quite often on the website).

Sorry! I had this is issue with an older version.... I wasn't referring to the current version. DL is ahead of me.

thebaron Jul 21, 2011 8:39 pm

First, thanks for putting this together. Glad to see Delta's effort here. A couple of other suggestions for future versions:

- Love the ability to see my place on the upgrade list. However, once upgraded, can the app automatically update my boarding pass with the new seat? It would be nice not to have to wait for the ticket to come out of the machine.
- Don't automatically log out after a fixed period of time. Similarly, better offline functionality would be nice as there are many airports where cell phone coverage is limited around the gate area. Last week (still using v1.4, so this may be a moot point), I was scrambling at security trying to get a cell phone signal -- I checked in at the office before driving to the airport, but was automatically logged out by the time I got to the airport. Had to start from the beginning (log in using Skymiles number) to access my boarding pass.

infamousdx Jul 21, 2011 9:14 pm

Great app... way ahead of its competitors.

Kwaj boy Jul 22, 2011 7:30 am

Okay I have what's probably a dumb question. I just used the app for the first time to check in for my flights. It checked me in just fine and I get a message that says "You are now checked in. Go to a kiosk to print your boarding pass." There's no sign of a mobile boarding pass on my phone that I can see. Where do I look for the mobile boarding pass? I have an Alaska Air flight in my itinerary (coded as a DL flight) if that makes a difference.
