Credit Inquiries
Credit Inquiries for Personal cards come from BofA. Inquiries for business cards come from FIA.
Credit bureaus usually merge inquiries from the same requester made on the same day.
Inquiries from BofA and FIA will not be merged.
Does one have to call BoA to lower a card's credit limit?
Yes, there is no longer any way to contact BOA online. Phone is the only method currently.
When do the initial bonus miles post? You will get the miles after the statement closes for the cycle in which you meet your minimum spend. Usually AS points show up the Sunday evening after your statement closes, but sometimes it takes an additional week.
If there's a statement credit, when does it post?
It seems to be batch-processed. It will post automatically. Can be on the same statement or the next statement. It does not appear to be based on the statement close date.
Can you send a secure message through your account online?
No. BOA has removed the secure message functionality, even for Preferred members. The only way to contact BOA now is to call them.
Can I apply for another personal Alaska card if I have one open already?
Some people still can, but these days many people get denied. If you don't want to risk getting denied, it's probably better if you close any existing personal Alaska cards before applying for another one. But be sure to lower credit limit as low as possible at least a few business days before you close the card (though the earlier you can do it the better), because credit limit that's left on the card when you close it stays unavailable to new card applications for a year or more (while credit limit that's lowered as a separate step becomes available to new card applications much sooner)!

After spending a year licking my wounds from my M+ denial and brutal recon attempts last year, I finally finagled a working application page for the 40k AS offer tonight and was auto approved for a $10k+ CL. And this after my prior AS apps a year+ ago I'd only get the insulting $4k Plat approval. BoA is a fickle mistress that's for sure.

They could have send a rejection, or they could have sent you a request to provide some income verification (eg,, tax return), or they wanted to verify your mailing address, or something else.

Also do you have bank relationship with BOA?

Yes, long term bank relationship. Not a lot of $ but I've had a checking account with them for 10+ years. Probably 4/12. It's been a relatively quiet year for me from a new card perspective. I think this will be my 3rd or 4th AS personal card. Not sure without checking my records.

App in review, what are my options? And ok to cancel flights and rebook with code?
Hi, new to all this, just tried applying for personal card. Despite excellent credit and no new credit cards in the past year, I was put into review status rather than approved. I did open a new bank account recently (not a loan) that threw a hard pull, so I guess that is why. The tickets I want to use the companion benefit for are rather time sensitive due to limited availability on the route I need. This would have been an issue even if I were instantly approved since I understand it could take a couple months to get the code credited. But now that the card looks unlikely I figured why risk losing the routing and went ahead and booked the tickets (still within 24 hours at this point). Of course I timed things poorly because recon is not open weekends. Here are my questions:
1) if I do manage to get the card after recon and qualify for the companion benefit, would it be a viable plan to cancel an existing booking (looks like cancel fee is just $125 per person) and rebook with the companion code? I would lose $250 but that is only a small fraction of the cost of the second ticket and it is important not to lose this routing. Just wondering if there were any issues with this plan.
2) if I call recon, and it seems like I am not going to get the signature card, is it possible to just withdraw my app at that point rather than risk being approved for the lesser card? Will doing this preserve the possibility of applying for the card in the future and getting the companion bonus? If I cannot cancel the app through recon, is there any other way? I don't want to wind up with a useless card with no benefits especially if it will make it harder to get other cards later.
Thanks for any thoughts.

If recon moves the 2.5K from one cc to another, to get to signature cc. do you have to do anything else to get the bonus you applied for? it used to mostly happen automatically, but now how does it work?
so if they put in the signature card request, is that all that needs to be done?
*my goodness bofa is so hard to get approved for. what a struggle compared to the past.

I called recon today and they said thats still pending and they sent me something in the email.
I heard that BofA likes to ask for verification on certain info.
one thing I am concerned about is will BofA ask for my tax return? the "income" i inputted on the app wont match my real income....

I have a real stable job with bi-weekly paychecks being DD. but I doubled my income amount on the app to get a higher chance of approval
My real income is $xx,xxx.xx
the fake "income" I put on the app was $xxx, xxx.xx
Got the letter from BofA and they are asking for my recent pay stub.... again, am I SOL?

As a data point, I was approved today after initially being put "in review." I called recon and was told they had already been working on the approval, so I'm not sure my calling mattered, though I was transferred to a different agent who asked various verification questions and texted me a code to prove I was calling from the number I said. Strange process overall.
