Personal Card
Click here to get the same offer (see below) with the annual fee waived the first year. First try entering code 999999 in the box at the top of the page. Apparently this offer is from an AA employee selling the card inflight, but it seems to be open to everyone. But publishing that employee's code online could get the employee in trouble. If 999999 doesn't work, use employee code 356467. Note: You will NOT get a $99 Companion Certificate as part of your bonus when the annual fee is waived.
Language from the web offer page: Anniversary Companion Certificate: Each anniversary year; earn a Companion Certificate good for 1 guest at $99 (plus taxes and fees) after spending $20,000 on purchases and your account remains open for 45 days after your anniversary date. There is NO LANGUAGE in this offer regarding a "complimentary" companion certificate.

As of Sept. 2017, most people applying for an Aviator card are being denied, "instantly" by a computer, if they already have an Aviator card open. As of Dec. 2017, most people applying for an Aviator card are being denied, even by recon, if they already have an Aviator card open. It had been that current and previous Aviator Red (US Airways Converted) cardmembers were not subject to the 24-month restriction. This seems to have changed as far as current card holders applying for a second, concurrent card. (See posts #185, 193, 194, 195, 198, 199, 211, 220, 247, 290, 527, 529, 532)

It appears that if your SUB includes the $95 AF (annual fee), Barclays doesn't post the AF until the 2nd statement. Thus, it will be a min. of 2 statements before you see your SUB points. This is only if the SUB requires the AF (as opposed to some SUBs that just have the $x,xxx in purchases with no AF).
There have been at least two cases in July 2023 where Barclays posted the AF prior to the first statement. In both of those cases, the cardholder paid the AF and other balance prior to the closing date. The SUB was issued as of the first statement for one these accounts. It may be the second one was too close to the closing date.
Posting of points from Barclays SUB to AA seem to take 3-7 days after the SUB posts on the Barclays Statement.

I have not applied for a credit card since March 2016. Today, I applied for the Barclay Aviator card and received instant approval of 5k. Very surprised as I have been denied by Barclay at least 3 times in the past 2 years.
After this card, I applied for the Alaska airlines and received instant approval for 17k. Not surprised .

If you indeed have not applied for ANY credit card for 2 years, virtually ANY bank would approve you baring some glaring blemish on your report. Hence the AS card approval also comes as a given, since you would be 0/18. That is a rare bleed in this forum!

Aviator Denial
Data Point--
Had US Airways card (and got bonus) years ago. Automatically they issued the Aviator Red at merger. I cancelled that card over two years ago. Current credit score 827. Also have Arrival Mastercard with Barclays and charged over $32,000 in past 12 months. Balance paid in full each month.
Applied for Aviator online; they did a credit pull (which would have led me to believe I was "safe" for new bonus); got pending response. Called reconsideration and they said (firmly) that because I had gotten the bonus already on that product (it's predecessor actually) that I would not be eligible for any further bonus.
Wasted credit pull on that one...and got denial.

OTOH, wonder if you dont call and just let the system works its process and not having a human to look at your history, might still be able to slip thru? just a thought.

What??? Not unless things greatly changed overnight. Yes, Citi and Chase have a 24 month policy. AMEX has a once in a lifetime policy. B/A has a new 2/3/4 policy on any of their cards. And as far as I know Barclays and USB don't have any such policy at all. And while Citi goes by the opened/closed date, Chase goes on the date the last sign up bonus posted.
OK, there is language in the T/C that has never been enforced. So what? I could care less what the T/C say, unless/until they begin to enforce that. Therefore my previous post was about the facts of applying. It would be a shame if people read the posts above and mistakenly think they cannot successfully reapply for this card.
Though I am not sure it is denial of the card or denial of the bonus. Plus the poster said his previous card was closed TWO YEARS AGO (though may be the exact time line is blurry).

I think this DP is not a firm one since
- the previous card was closed over 2 years ago
- we don't even know that the denial was done as system denial or human/CSR not approving it.

Greetings all,
Had a question related to spending count in a calendar year when you upgrade product type mid-calendar year (and mid card year for that matter).
Just got my annual fee notice in the mail. Called, AF waived. 5k bonus miles for $1k spend in 90 days. Accepted. CSR mentioned that having accepted the offers may make me ineligible for other offers in the next 90 days, including product changes. I think I would like to upgrade to the Silver card and can make the spend requirement to get the eqm, but am wondering if the spend I make between Jan 1 and whenever I do upgrade the card in 2018 will count towards the yearly total to earn eqm?
Any experience on upgrading mid year and how that affects spending requirements for EQM/EDQ/etc, not related to a sign up bonus?

Well "darn". Was just about to apply for another Aviator. Was just waiting for my Arrival app to be 6 months ago. And now I don't know what to think, as it's just one data point, albeit a very discouraging one. Was it just one grumpy CSR having a bad day, was the reason for the denial something else, and the CSR made up a reason Citi-like, or is this the end of churning Barclays? I'm afraid it's the latter, due to bad news on the Arrival thread as well. ;(

I'm going to test it out soon after waiting a month from closing my last card...it was opened in April '17. It's almost as if they said "Here is our policy" but then didn't put in the programming (or whatever) to actually track compliance...though it seems that may have changed.
