Medal final results as of 2/23:
9 gold, 7 silver, 12 bronze = 7450 points + 20k guaranteed = 27,450 points

This promotion is similar to a very successful offer during the 2012 Olympics --
See this historic thread: [EXPIRED] U.S. Bank CC with 33,150 FlexPerks [~640 USD] travel sign up bonus, no fee

Sign up link: http://www.flexperks.com/credit/offe...motion&lang=en
NOTE: This offer is officially expired. Even though the application page still loads, it is likely that you will only receive the 20k point portion of the offer if you apply now.

The offer expires March 7, 2014, and includes:
Deadline extended - must be approved by March 14, 2014... offer includes:

  • Guaranteed 20,000 FlexPerks points after $3500 spend within first four months
  • An additional bonus depending on how many medals USA teams win during the Olympics [Gold = 500, Silver = 250, Bronze = 100; actual total = 7450 points]
  • First purchase must be made by March 31 to be awarded the 7450 point medals bonus
  • For reference, based on results at the last winter Olympics, the total bonus would have been 29,550, worth almost $600
  • $0 fee first year, then $49 subsequent years
  • 3 pts/$ on donations to charity
  • 2 pts/$ for gas, grocery, and airline purchases
  • 1 pt/$ elsewhere

More about bonus earning categories:

2pts/$ in whichever ONE of the following you had your highest spend for the statement month:
  • Grocery stores
  • Gas Stations
  • Airline Travel
And always 2pts/$ for cellphone bill payments

Each point is worth up to 2 cents when redeemed for airline tickets, according to this tiered redemption system:

No partial redemptions are allowed. In other words, a ticket priced at $395 costs 20k points while a ticket priced at $405 costs 30k points. No option to combine points+cash. Each redemption includes a reimbursement for up to $25 of incidentals charged directly by the airline.

If I didn't use the points before the annual fee came up, could I downgrade the card and keep the points?

Yes, but they convert to cash back points, and lose half their value (20,000 = $200 cash, vs 20,000 = $400 flight).

Any thoughts or observations from the community on whether an applicant in this scenario would qualify for this promo?

TIA.
no thoughts. I've asked this question a few times, and it sounds like there's not enough experience with the scenario to get an answer. I'm in the same situation and pulled the trigger exactly a week ago. Just called the 800 number and have no response.

Applied today for both the personal and biz. Got screens saying I was approved and asking me to accept terms--22k and 20k credit limit. Cards to be mailed in 7-10 days. However, they also say the application may require further processing, in which case they'll send me a letter in 7-10 days. In addition, I got an e-mail re: the personal card saying they have my application and will reply in 7-10 days. Is this standard approval language? I don't remember any of this waffling language in my Club Carlson approvals.

Looks like the deadline was extended to March 14; however, you still have to make the first purchase my March 31 to get the medals part of the bonus...

How do flexperks travel bookings show up on your statement?
Do they show up as rewards or do they show up as billed and then a credit appears?

No cash transactions post, just a reduction of your points balance.

Wasn't gonna do it with the 3/7 expiration date, but now being moved to 3/14 I thought I'd go for a double play (pers & biz) b/c my Club Carlson last fall was instant approval. If they pulled Experian report I have really high inquiries (27).

Both pending.

So now I've got 8 days max to get approved before 3/14, and then have to get the card and a purchase processed by the 31st, or the rushed applications lose 15k points (7k+ olympic bonus each). That said, I wouldn't recommend anyone applying this week that isn't confident they'll get an instant approval. Ouch. Anybody dealt w/recon recently? I'll call in the morning.

Please report back. I'm trying to decide myself if I should call, and honestly, don't feel like dealing with CSR if it'll just be a waste of my time.

Called the # 1-800-947-1444 to check status on both the pers & biz app hoping for a manual review or that they just might need to verify something. No dice.
Both went to verifications dept to be reviewed manually. 1st rep said personal card should have a decision in "2-3 biz days", and 2nd rep said biz card should have one in "3-5 biz days". Mentioned the limited time bonus terms needing to be approved by 14th and purchase processed by 31st, but that doesn't help. I asked if my app would be approved for the olympics bonus b/c I applied early enough, regardless of approval date, he put me on hold, came back and said today's the last day to apply (obviously doesn't know about the extension) & said as long as a first purchase proceses by the end of March, I'd get it.
Not too hopeful, but I'll keep calling. YMMV, cuidado with this one.

Applied on 2/26. Just got my rejection letter for the biz card - too many inquiries. True, I applies less than two months after my last application to get in on this offer. I suspect I'll hear the same from the personal card. Oh well. I really need to stop applying for cards that are a long shot. I just get dinged on my credit report and have nothing to show for it.

Fat chance for me then too. Bummer.

I should add, this was an attempt to churn the business card, so that was unsuccessful.
