Medal final results as of 2/23:
9 gold, 7 silver, 12 bronze = 7450 points + 20k guaranteed = 27,450 points

This promotion is similar to a very successful offer during the 2012 Olympics --
See this historic thread: [EXPIRED] U.S. Bank CC with 33,150 FlexPerks [~640 USD] travel sign up bonus, no fee

Sign up link: http://www.flexperks.com/credit/offe...motion&lang=en
NOTE: This offer is officially expired. Even though the application page still loads, it is likely that you will only receive the 20k point portion of the offer if you apply now.

The offer expires March 7, 2014, and includes:
Deadline extended - must be approved by March 14, 2014... offer includes:

  • Guaranteed 20,000 FlexPerks points after $3500 spend within first four months
  • An additional bonus depending on how many medals USA teams win during the Olympics [Gold = 500, Silver = 250, Bronze = 100; actual total = 7450 points]
  • First purchase must be made by March 31 to be awarded the 7450 point medals bonus
  • For reference, based on results at the last winter Olympics, the total bonus would have been 29,550, worth almost $600
  • $0 fee first year, then $49 subsequent years
  • 3 pts/$ on donations to charity
  • 2 pts/$ for gas, grocery, and airline purchases
  • 1 pt/$ elsewhere

More about bonus earning categories:

2pts/$ in whichever ONE of the following you had your highest spend for the statement month:
  • Grocery stores
  • Gas Stations
  • Airline Travel
And always 2pts/$ for cellphone bill payments

Each point is worth up to 2 cents when redeemed for airline tickets, according to this tiered redemption system:

No partial redemptions are allowed. In other words, a ticket priced at $395 costs 20k points while a ticket priced at $405 costs 30k points. No option to combine points+cash. Each redemption includes a reimbursement for up to $25 of incidentals charged directly by the airline.

Now at 27,350. Sad that the US hockey team didn't get any medal.

Added: Final offer 27,450. Not nearly as good as the summer Olympics promotion, but I'll take it. I guess I'll have to spend $1275 in a single category to make it an even 30,000 points.

I got the dreaded 7-10 days message. After calling the reconsideration/underwriting dept, they kept telling me that I have to wait for the application to be reviewed. Has anyone had luck getting approved immediately on the phone with an underwriter and if so which number did you call?

I just waited and let them do their thing. I received the card today.

How are you figuring your math there?

You have to spend $3500, you get 3500 points just for that. and you get 27,450 bonus, so you end up with 30950, assuming nothing was spent in a 2x or 3x category.

You're right -- I was looking only at the first purchase requirement for the Sochi bonus, and missed the required spend for the 20,000 bonus. So I have to spend a little more.

Just applied and got a message saying that they are unable to make a decision now and will mail the decision to me in 7-10 days. Is there an online application status check page for USBANK? Thanks.

This is from US Bank website.

Check the Status of My Credit Card Application? Please call 800-947-1444 and choose option 1 for the status of an application. The potential cardmember will be required to enter his/her social security number to locate the application. Additional verification item(s) will be needed to validate.

Waited a few days

Applied on Thursday, received the email:

"We received your online application for:
U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Travel Rewards Visa® Card

We'll review your information and reply within 7-10 business days. Thank you for choosing U.S. Bank."

Read this thread and decided to give it a few days. Called the automated 800 number yesterday and got a congratulations that it was approved.

I have no other details and so far no email notification from them. However, my USBank page shows another card there, so I got something at least.

No harm in calling the number at least as it seems difficult to get much info on this card.

Applied on this Tuesday and the status changed to rejected today. Called the number, the rep said I have too many activities recently. I asked for a recon, she said she will try to find someone to review my app, but her tone sounds like she will not do anything and she just wanted me to shut up and hang up the call..

Is there a way to check which card I have been approved, like Travel Rewards Visa Card or Selected Rewards card? The status check number only tells me my app has been approved but does not give me an option to talk to a rep..

Update
When you call the 1444 #, do not put any personal information, then finally some rep will pick up the call..

bumping question re: ability to receive promo after cancelling summer olympics card

Hi FTers: Have been monitoring this thread for awhile as I previously signed up for and received the Summer Olympics promo. I downgraded the card last summer (not sure what it was maybe something like Cash+) to avoid the annual fee.

Any thoughts or observations from the community on whether an applicant in this scenario would qualify for this promo?

TIA.

I was approved for the business version yesterday. Was checking my other USB accounts online and the new business card was there, with $8500 limit. Hope it gets the Olympic bonus! Will confirm when I call to activate....
^
5 March 2014 update: Confirmed that Business version also gets Olympic bonus!
