Eastern also used to have a thing called the Weekender Club which used to offer low-price short-notice fares, which I often used to head down to Florida, combined with a National rental car for about $9.99/day.
What helped do Eastern in, was it made a big investment in newer fuel efficient a/c towards the end of the energy crisis. Eastern was the launch customer of the 757. Continental's 757's and A-300's were ex-Eastern hardware.
Does anyone else remember the Kansas City hub?

The three things I remember about flying thru Kansas City on Eastern:
1) Their unique (to me) terminal. Cars could drop off passengers, as I recall, right in front of a departure gate, that is, you got out of the car, walked 30 feet and you were at your departure gate with the aircraft just outside.
2) This made the terminal very long and narrow and somewhat, but not inordinately, crowded.
3) It was the only time I put my then completely mobile and completely irresponsible two year old on a child leash so he could walk and burn off some energy on the ground without getting lost.

Was hired-on in Sept '89 when the union workers were on strike. Trained for a month @ the MIA training center for ticketing but when we returned to our station as part-timers we were all cross-trained for the various positions: ticket counter, gate, operations, ramp/baggage/aircraft service & cleaning, etc. Positions were "re-bid" every 6 months or so, based on seniority date. I started part-time ticket counter, moved to part-time gate agent, then full-time ramp work and eventually night ramp supervisor/ops. We worked 4/10's so my workweek was Mon-Tue-Wed-Thur nights (9pm to 7am the next morning) so when I got off work Fri @ 7am I didn't go back to work til 9pm Monday night. Kwaj boy & I went somewhere nearly every weeked - I'd check flight stats to see where we could non-rev in F/C that weekend based on how many open seats were still available and how many elites were booked and eligible for upgrades. I would then "list" us as standby and only once did we not get a seat. Thus we were forever spoiled - where else could you pay $10 to fly F/C systemwide? Now we're both plats on NW so at least we have a decent shot for an upgrade on most domestic flights we take. Ahhh....the good ol' days...

I believe was formed when the holding company of CO bought EA. The reason it was called onepass is because you could get flights on either CO or EA with it . I used to have a onepass card with both the CO and EA logo's on it . (I still have a luggage claim check from EA) .
Still works. I can swipe it at a checkin kiosk and it brings up my reservations.

EA 757's
According to airfleets.net a bunch of them (eg N924UW (formally N514EA) ) went to usair . Another went to America West (N518EA) . The A300's did come to CO from EA .

Checking Airliners.net, it doesn't appear that CO ever operated the 757-225. I'm not surprised the ships were ferried to IAH after Eastern shut down, but it looks like the owners ended up parking a bunch of them in LAS, waiting for better times.

On the back, there's a couple numbers. One for CO, one for EA. So I called 800-EASTERN and got "Eastern bank." The CO 800 number is still CO's.

Ack!! OK, you made me look! I have my "One Pass" card, too. Red and white stripes on the front, says "Travel Rewards Above and Beyond" on the top. Member since 84 and on the back CO and EA logos. BUT the account number starts with AR and my CO One Pass number (which also says member since 84) starts with GM... Bet I'll be trying it next week when I fly out!

This whole section is AMAZING! Eastern Airlines was INCREDIBLE! My Mom took me down to PHL when I was in the 3rd grade to pick up my sister who was visiting our grandparents in SRQ. The second I saw an EAL jet, I was OBSESSED! The next year, my family and I took a trip to Walt Disney World. We flew on EAL flight number 871 from PHL to MCO on an L-1011...we left out of gate C4. I even remember that we had rolled up pancakes with apple filling in them...they were delicious...at least to me they were. It was my very first time flying on an airline and it was unforgettable.
My Grandparents used to fly EAL all of the time back in the day out of JFK. They were flying from JFK to BOS once when, then-Senator John F Kennedy came on board and sat right in front of them! Pretty amazing!
I think if Eastern were around today, they would be great!

Surprised no one has brought up the speculation about a resurrection of the Eastern brand:
http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo...s%22#ID4433240
The USA 3000 operating certificate is being looked at to support a return of the Eastern brand for some Florida/Caribbean vacation routes in conjunction with Apple Vacations.
Frankly if your business is trying to get snowbirds from the north down to Florida/the Caribbean makes sense to consider the Eastern trademark. Plenty of recognition among the 40+ crowd. Whether it's positive recognition is another story.
